What are the responsibilities and job description for the Analytical Chemist position at RTI International?
The Discovery Sciences team at RTI International has been involved in conducting scientific research for more than 30 years . For example, our scientists perform a broad array of chemical analyses, including:
- High-throughput screening
- Measurements of environmental media
- Analytical method development and validation
- Chemical characterization
- Dose formulation development, validation and dose analysis
- Bioanalytical method development, validation and analysis
- Stability measurements
- Pharmacokinetic studies
We are currently seeking an Analytical Chemist with experience characterizing organic carbon species and toxicity of Fine Particulate Matter (PM2,5) and other emerging environmental contaminants, e.g., PFAS and microplastics. Previous experience with sample preparation techniques involving solvent and solid phase extraction is required. Experience with chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques, data processing, data interpretation, and reporting, to support, propose and lead complex research projects is required. Previous experience with ICP-OES and ICP-MS is preferred but not required. You will be provided the opportunity to build a sustainable research program and provide analytical support for a variety of research programs.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Develop research programs and contribute to proposals for state and federal government and private sector clients
- Expand RTI’s environmental analysis capabilities
- Expand RTI’s scientific stature, including peer-reviewed manuscripts and presentations at national and international conferences, lead and support preparation of project reports
- Mentor and lead a research team and develop RTI staff members
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a chemistry, biological sciences, or a related discipline
- A proven track record of peer-reviewed publications
- A demonstrated ability to propose and lead complex projects
- Strong verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
- A demonstrated understanding of instrumentation and software tools needed to collect, process, and interpret data
- Ability to work independently and with teams, and to establish and maintain good working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and clients
