Overview

RTI International’s Health Practice Area has multiple openings for Bachelor’s-level Health Policy Researchers/Economists to assist with implementation, analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of innovative health and social policies, programs, and research initiatives.

 

In this position, you will function as an integral part of a team supporting research and analytic activities. The role includes opportunities to apply quantitative skills and collaborate with senior research staff, while developing an in-depth understanding of critical health policy and research issues, and advanced methods. Many opportunities for mentorship and professional development in a variety of health-related topic areas are available.

 

This position can be either fully remote or based in RTI’s U.S. offices in Research Triangle Park, NC; Waltham, MA; or Washington, DC. Teleworking is permitted within the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with quantitative research activities including data abstraction, data analysis, data cleaning, file building, statistical modeling, measure calculation, writing detailed technical specifications and documentation, creating tables and figures, and/or writing analytic reports.
  • Analyze large health-related datasets (e.g., Medicare enrollment, claims and encounter data, national health surveys, Medicaid data, cancer registries, prescription drug data).
  • Assist in developing and implementing processes to assure quality and accuracy of data analyses.
  • Review and proof own work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with project management responsibilities including scheduling, preparing meeting agendas, and recording meeting minutes.
  • Conduct literature reviews, environmental scans, and synthesize findings.
  • Contribute to and/or prepare portions of technical memoranda, reports, and presentations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Health Services Research, Data Science, Actuarial Science, Operations Research, Finance, Applied Mathematics/Statistics, Pharmaceutical Economics, or a related field.
  • Quantitative coursework (e.g., statistics, quantitative methods, data analysis).
  • Demonstrated interest in health services and/or health economics research.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B visa status, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with statistical programming packages (e.g. Python, R, SAS, SQL, or STATA).
  • Knowledge of health care markets (e.g., Medicare prescription drug market).
  • Relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated quantitative skills as evidenced in a research project, paper, or other work.

Our pay ranges represent national averages and may vary by location as a geographic differential may be applied to some locations within the United States. RTI considers multiple factors when making an offer including, for example: established salary range, internal budget, business needs, and education and years of work experience possessed by the applicant. Further, salary is merely one element to our offer.
