RTI's Transformative Research Unit for Equity (TRUE) is focused on reimagining traditional research practices and creating systems that advance racial equity and social justice.We build evidence through research and evaluation strategies to enable systems to become more equitable (i.e., health systems, community-systems and infrastructure, educational systems). We take an intersectional approach to advancing equity and social justice, meaning we focus on the ways in which systems of oppression are interdependent or overlap to create unique dynamics and effects.
TRUE has an immediate opening for a Quantitative Equity Research Analyst. TRUE's research portfolio is focused on four areas 1) Environmental Justice and Infrastructure Equity, 2) Health Equity, 3) Community Safety and Healing, and 4) Equitable Education systems. The quantitative equity research analyst will be part of a growing team that leads and supports projects across all focus areas.
We are looking for team members who are excited about leveraging their quantitative expertise to advance equity and social justice. Our team leads and collaborates on many types of projects for a variety of clients. These range from research and evaluation, technical assistance, training on use of equity-centered methodological approaches, and strategic advising.
Candidates should have demonstrated research experience in at least one of TRUE's research portfolio areas and be able to serve as a quantitative consultant or analyst to team members in all four areas. The individual chosen for this position will also support RTI staff and clients to rethink traditional quantitative methods in ways that center and advance equity. This position requires the ability to work independently and as a member of a team. A successful candidate will enjoy statistical programming, problem-solving, and be highly detail oriented. Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Lead and collaborate on the development and conduct of methodological research and the analysis and interpretation of the resulting data.
- Provide consultation to clients and researchers to support advancement of quantitative approaches or analyses to advance equity.
- Advance thought leadership on critical quantitative approaches (e.g. Contribute to and/or lead the writing of reports, briefs, proposals, and scientific papers).
- Learn about RTI's proposal process, write sections of technical proposals, and contribute to proposal budgets.
- Participates in strategic planning, business development, and staff mentoring.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD or PhD candidate (target defense in Spring/Summer 2024); or a Master's degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor's degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing large datasets; moving and merging data files from different platforms (e.g., SQL, Excel, SAS); performing statistical analyses and interpreting findings in ways that are accessible to researchers and community members.
- Demonstrated expertise in quantitative methods, intersectionality research, and at least one of the following research areas: 1) Environmental Justice and Infrastructure Equity, 2) Health Equity, 3) Community Safety and Healing, and/or 4) Equitable Education Systems.
- Proficiency in R, Python, and/or SAS.
- Self-motivated with the ability to deliver high quality work products within established deadlines.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work independently.
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with staff in different geographic locations and across a range of levels of experience.
- Growth mindset with demonstrated ability to take in and act on feedback to improve performance.
- To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status.
Highly Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience with network analysis and structural equation modeling.
- Demonstrated experience with system dynamics, missing data imputation, multilevel and longitudinal modeling, systems science methods, and quantitative intersectional methods.
