The Product Development Engineer is a hands-on position that requires a significant amount of formulation, process, and lab work, as well as day to day interaction with customers, material, and equipment vendors, other Wiman departments (sales, customer service, quality, etc.).

The Product Development Engineer is a hands-on position that requires a significant amount of formulation, process, and lab work, as well as day to day interaction with customers, material, and equipment vendors, other Wiman departments (sales, customer service, quality, etc.).

- Assist customer service and sales reps with technical information
- Learn computer system
- Become familiar with materials and Wiman capabilities
- Design and develop new products when necessary
- Produce lab samples on small scale extruder
- Material Characterization-Mechanical properties
- Updating product data sheets (formula and product specific)
- Developing specifications on new products
- Experimenting with different materials and additives
- Statistical analysis of production data on existing products
- Support QC Staff
- Learn material testing procedures
- Develop new testing procedures as needed
- Research and sourcing new test equipment as needed
- Assist with training for procedures
- Support production staff with processing equipment
- Research new equipment and control systems
- Assist implementation of new equipment
- Troubleshooting
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned, or apparent.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational skills, familiarity with experimental design techniques, and statistical analysis required
- Practical and common-sense approach to processing/manufacturing required
- Must be capable of multi-tasking and working both as a team and independently.
- Must be well organized and have a strong attention to detail.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Must be able to communicate with people in various positions and levels within and outside the company.
- Attendance is an essential function of the position.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Must have bachelor’s degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Composite Engineering or related field or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience required.
- Education and/or experience with plastic processing technologies preferred.

- Coordinate day-to-day phone and in person transactions.
- Required to sit, perform keyboard work, for prolonged periods of time
- Operates a computer and other office equipment such as a copy machine and printer.
- Communicates via phone, email, face-to-face, and on-line communication tools such as TEAMs.
- Lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
- Standard office, lab, and production environments. The noise level is typically low, due to office equipment, the noise level on the production floor and lab is typically medium to high. Specific vision abilities may require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This position requires the use of safety equipment as dictated by the work area such as safety glasses, shoes, gloves, etc.
