Who We AreRuby's Place dba Restorative Pathways (RP) is an innovative nonprofit committed to ending domestic violence, human trafficking, and violent crime through hope, advocacy and connection. Our services include emergency shelter, transitional housing, rental subsidies, mental health services, and wrap around services. All our services are trauma-sensitive and client-centered and are provided at no cost to our clients. There are no barriers to participate in our programs.

What qualifications are required for this position?
You Are Also:
- Holding an Associate’s degree in social services or enrolled in a similar program at an accredited four year College/University. Experience may be substituted for the education requirement.
- Experienced in crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, and client advocacy.
- Experienced working in a domestic violence and or homeless setting providing direct services to women with children.
- Understanding of the dynamics of abusive relationships and a commitment to preventing violence in the home.
- Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care as well as an understanding of, and sensitivity to, serving diverse populations.
- Certified inThe State mandated 40-hour Domestic Violence counselor certification. Can be arranged after hiring.
- Able to lift 25 lbs.
- In possession of a valid CA driver's license, proof of insurance, and be approved by RP insurance as a driver in order to drive agency vehicles. If a staff member cannot be approved by RP insurance as a driver, employment might not be able to continue. Instances where staff cannot be approved to drive will be reviewed on a case by case basis to determine if employment can continue in their role without driving agency vehicles. Items considered include but are not limited to: the shift the staff member holds and the frequency/necessity of driving during that shift, the amount of time before the staff member may be approved to drive by the insurance carrier, the availability of other staff on site to drive agency vehicles as program needs require, etc.
- Able to complete a background check, fingerprinting (Live Scan), and completion of all Community Care Licensing requirement documents. Able to meet all licensing requirements of Community Care Licensing.
You will report to the Shelter Manager. The function of the Residential Advocate is to provide necessary shift coverage for the overall operation and function of RP shelter for individuals with a reported history of sex/labor trafficking, domestic violence, or who are at risk of such abuse. Additionally, the Residential Advocate will provide support and assistance to Case Management staff.
Responsibilities include
- Monitor the shelter program during the day and evening shifts.
- Perform telephone screening for potential clients.
- Basic maintenance and cleaning tasks (cleaning, chore supervision, stocking, and general supply inventory).
- Assist with data entry, filing and additional clerical duties.
- Provide confidential, holistic, client-centered, trauma-informed services.
- Orient new residents to shelter facilities.
- Assist with general shelter operations.
- Provide back-up in-person or phone shift coverage to other Shelter Programs as necessary
- Fill out a functional timesheet by assigned due dates and in compliance with the time allocations.
- Actively participate in reflective supervision
- Create and maintain documentation of processes and procedures in relation to duties of the job
- Other duties as assigned by your supervisor
This position is in-person. You are expected to be available on-site as necessary given business needs. You must be able to stand for long periods of time and perform physical activities, including lifting up to 25 pounds. You will be subject to frequent interruptions and must be able to multitask and handle stress.
Local travel in the greater Bay Area may be required.

This is an in-person position, with some days required in our Castro Valley Office. Applicants must be located in the greater Bay Area.
