What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Collaborative Teacher position at Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor?
Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor is seeking a Middle School Collaborative Teacher to join our strong and collaborative Lower School faculty for the 2024-25 school year. Our school is looking for a teacher who values authentic relationships, innovation, and a commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion work.
The Middle School Collaborative Teacher position is essentially a fourth class teacher position for our Grade 6 – 8. It is designed to strengthen our Middle School program and serve our students, faculty, and families well. The Middle School Collaborative Teacher will work with the 6th Grade, 7th Grade, and 8th Grade Class Teachers to deliver curriculum, lead activities and trips, and offer parent engagement opportunities. Over time we expect the Middle School Collaborative Teacher to develop a main lesson specialty within the Middle School, allowing the three lead class teachers to have time to work with students and curriculum during breaks from Main Lesson.
Benefits of working at our organization include becoming a part of a community that cares about you as a person, your continued development, your life and family. We value human connection and create an environment that inspires strong relationships between our students, families, and colleagues. As a community, we are always considering the question of how to best meet the children of today through a pedagogy that upholds the dignity of each human being, and what we must reimagine to do so.
It is important to us that our teachers feel supported in their work by our strong and innovative administrative staff. The school supports our students, teachers, and administration through a strong curriculum, schedules, festivals, and school-wide collaboration. We offer both Spanish and German from first to twelfth grade, a growing movement program, strong fine and practical arts, choral and instrumental music. We celebrate a wide mix of traditional festivals from around the world, including Rosh Hashanah, Diwali, Day of the Dead, Lunar New Year, and Eid. The faculty meets weekly and studies various topics, allowing time to discuss pedagogy with colleagues. We have an engaged and active faculty, and recently worked with Alma Partners to continue to develop our work in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Waldorf education was created to offer a multi-sensory and holistic approach to education that strives to acknowledge the gifts and reduce the struggles of every individual. Our pedagogy works to meet the developmental needs of children as it supports children’s academic, social, and emotional health through critical thinking, creativity, arts, and movement. We believe children need less memorization and testing, and instead, more connection and hands-on learning inspired by the truth, beauty, and wisdom of our world. Waldorf education was also founded on the principle that faculty should play an active role in governance and decision-making. Ann Arbor is rich in natural landscapes, providing many scenic parks along the river and nearby lakes. It also is an area with many different job opportunities for other family members, if needed. We are a forty-minute drive from the culture of Detroit, which offers the richness of an urban center, museums, and cultural connections.
