Axiom Consultants is seeking a skilled and experienced Land Survey Crew Chief to work closely with survey technicians to perform a variety of land surveying tasks. In this role, you will be responsible for the operation and accuracy of survey instruments and the collection of field data. The position requires technical expertise and attention to detail in supporting land development, construction, and civil engineering projects.
Responsibilities:
- Perform field surveys, including boundary, topographic, and construction staking, with the assistance of survey technicians.
- Operate and maintain survey instruments such as total stations, GPS units, and data collectors to capture precise field measurements.
- Collaborate with survey technicians to ensure accurate and efficient data collection.
- Perform calculations, data analysis, and field adjustments to verify the accuracy of survey data.
- Interpret engineering plans, survey drawings, and legal descriptions to carry out project requirements in the field.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, local regulations, and surveying standards.
- Prepare and maintain field notes, sketches, and electronic data to document surveys for further processing by office staff.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients regarding survey needs and project progress.
- Assist in construction layout and staking for roads, utilities, and building sites.
- Perform routine checks and calibration of survey equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in land surveying or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in land surveying.
- Proficiency with survey instruments such as total stations, GPS, and data collectors.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other surveying software for basic data processing and review.
- Strong knowledge of survey principles, methods, and standards, including boundary, topographic, and construction surveys.
- Excellent mathematical and problem-solving skills to perform accurate field calculations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members and project stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently in the field and handle multiple projects concurrently.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to various project sites.
