A rapidly growing and dynamic law firm in Southern California is looking for a strategic, proactive, and accountability-driven Chief Operating Officer to join their executive team. the Chief Operating Officer (COO) will play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence, fostering a culture of accountability, and ensuring the firm’s strategic goals are achieved. This role is for a proactive leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, embraces challenges, and is committed to executing with precision and urgency.

The right candidate is a decisive, solutions-driven professional who is not afraid to take ownership, set high standards, and hold others accountable. This position demands a balance of strategic foresight and hands-on execution to ensure processes are not only created but fully implemented and producing measurable results.

COO Responsibilities include :

  • Transition the firm from reactive to proactive operational management.
  • Set clear expectations and enforce deadlines across all departments.
  • Establish measurable goals and consequences for non-compliance.
  • Develop and sustain a culture of urgency, accountability, and follow-through.
  • Ensure operational processes are not only documented but actively followed.
  • Implement monthly audits to measure compliance and refine processes.
  • Align all workflows with the firm’s growth objectives and ensure efficiency.
  • Address challenges with a long-term, metrics-driven approach.
  • Develop strategic plans with defined outcomes and review mechanisms.
  • Lead quarterly sessions to evaluate and refine operational performance.
  • Assert authority confidently across all levels of the firm.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Owner and Managing Attorney to align strategies.
  • Lead with transparency and ensure decisions are respected and implemented.
  • Communication & Team Alignment
  • Drive firm-wide communication to align all teams with strategic goals.
  • Establish and oversee a regular meeting cadence for tracking progress.
  • Ensure transparency through regular feedback loops and accountability reviews.
  • Oversee financial performance, ensuring revenue goals and profit margins are met.
  • Monitor budgets, collections, and overhead to ensure financial discipline.
  • Provide actionable insights to leadership through financial reporting.
  • Drive the adoption of 1-2 cutting-edge legal technologies each year to optimize efficiency.
  • Ensure cybersecurity compliance and manage firm-wide technology adoption.
  • Continuously seek improvements through automation and process enhancements.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top talent to support the firm’s growth.
  • Foster leadership development across departments to elevate performance.
  • Oversee performance improvement plans to uphold high standards.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to increase brand awareness and lead generation.
  • Ensure the execution of marketing initiatives aligned with growth goals.
  • Monitor ROI on marketing strategies and adjust plans as needed.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with legal regulations and professional standards.
  • Work with legal counsel to mitigate risks and resolve compliance challenges.
  • Safeguard the firm’s reputation through proactive risk management.
  • Ensure firm-wide compliance with established processes to improve efficiency and accountability.
  • Drive department heads and teams to meet or exceed performance targets and proactively contribute solutions.
  • Strengthen the firm’s financial position by improving cash flow management and profitability.
  • Successfully scale firm operations and support expansion into new markets.

Qualified Chief Operating Officers should have :

  • Proven track record of managing people and operations at a high performing company or law firm.
  • 7-10 years of professional team leadership experience and HR oversight.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, master’s degree preferred
  • Track record of expansion, and managing teams, processes, and policies in a way that promotes overall company growth
