Position:

Special Education Teacher at Ruidoso Middle School

Qualifications:

* NM Public Education Department SPED Teaching License or eligibility.

* Successful experience preferred teaching secondary students.

* Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS).

* Experience with technology.

* Must demonstrate a willingness to work in a cooperative working environment.

* Strong reading, written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:

* Work with students with special needs.

* All subject areas.

* Conduct IEP meetings as needed.

* Work productively as part of a team.

*The teacher will regularly conduct planning for lessons using commonly accepted professional practice (content, goals, assessment, re-teaching, etc.) and consistent with school/district approved curriculum and instructional practice.

*The teacher uses research-based instructional strategies in planning lessons to make the teaching and learning more relevant to students (e.g., contextual learning opportunities).

*The teacher maintains and provides reasonable and meaningful student grading and evaluation consistent with school district policy and regularly and effectively communicates such information to students and parents. Reporting may include regular posting to and maintenance of electronic grade systems with parent and student access.

*The teacher integrates district approved and/or required technology into planning, learning, progress reporting, and required record-keeping activities.

*The teacher creates, communicates, and maintains classroom management practices that effectively engage students in the learning process. Acceptable student behavior and related discipline procedures are well understood by students and consistently enforced to maintain a positive learning environment.

*The teacher will actively participate in faculty and grade level or department meeting, assist building efforts to plan, budget, implement, and evaluate the school’s program and to do related work as required. In carrying out these responsibilities, the teacher will follow school policy and procedures, standard practices, and approved curriculum, and will actively and positively support the school vision.

*The teacher assists in the supervision of students at school activities and events. The teacher remains vigilant of students throughout the school day and the school location, taking the initiative to engage students when students are acting inappropriately or in an inappropriate location for the time of day.

*The teacher will establish a professional growth plan and annually review the plan and progress with the administrator.

*Required to follow board policies and procedures and stay abreast of updates and changes.

*Performs all other duties assigned.

 

*Physical requirements as outlined below;

1. Sitting Tasks: Sitting is an occasional requirement 10% of the time.

2. Walking Tasks: Walking is a frequent requirement up to 90%of the time.

3. Standing Tasks: standing is a frequent requirement up to 85 to 90% of the time.

4. Sprinting/Running Tasks: Sprinting/running is an occasional requirement, example: in case of emergency.

5. Flexibility:

a) Bending or twisting at the neck is a frequent requirement 85 - 90% of the time.

b) Bending or twisting at the trunk is a frequent requirement 85 - 90% of the time.

c) Reaching above the head is a frequent requirement 85 - 90% of the time.

d) Reaching forward is a frequent requirement 85 - 90% of the time.

e) Repeating the same hand, arm, or finger motion many times is a frequent requirement 85 - 90% of the time.

6. Use Of Arms & Hands

a) Manual dexterity is a frequent requirement 90% of the time.

b) Finger dexterity is a frequent requirement 90% of the time.

7. Lifting 10 - 25 Pounds

a) Lifting 10 - 25 pounds is a frequent requirement 90% of the time.

b) Lifting above the shoulders is a frequent requirement 90% of the time.

c) Lifting above the waist is a frequent requirement 90% of the time.

d) Lifting above the knees is a frequent requirement 90% of the time.

8. Lifting 26 - 50 Pounds

a) Lifting 26 - 50 pounds is a frequent requirement up to 50% of the time.

b) Lifting items above the shoulders is an occasional but essential requirement.

c) Lifting items above the waist is a frequent requirement.

d) Lifting items above the knees is a frequent requirement.

9. Lifting 50 - 75 Pounds

a) Lifting over 50 pounds is an occasional but essential requirement.

10. Pushing & Pulling

a) Pushing and pulling 75 pounds an occasional requirement up to 10% of the time.

b) Pushing and pulling 50 - 75 pounds is an occasional requirement up to 20% of the time.

c) Pushing and pulling 25 - 50 pounds is a frequent requirement up to 60% of the time.

11. Carrying Tasks:

a) Carrying of items that weigh between 25 - 50 pounds is a daily requirement.

12. Use Of Protective Equipment:

a) Protective equipment may be required as necessary for eye, ear, hands, head, feet, and face protection.
