The Indirect Category Manager is a thought leader, collaborator, project manager, and negotiator who applies strong business and procurement knowledge to the Indirect spend categories. This position will have accountability for a diverse group of goods and services ranging from capital equipment and MRO supplies to office supplies, sanitation chemicals, and professional services. This position is responsible for implementing key initiatives in the Indirect Categories. This leader possesses deep knowledge of indirect supply markets commonly used by food manufacturers and CPG companies. As the indirect procurement leader, you will be well versed in all phases of the procurement lifecycle from spend analysis and stakeholder collaboration to sourcing, supplier relationship management, and requisition and purchase order activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage $100M in spend of indirect goods and services
- Establish Category management approach for assigned areas of spend
- Continuously drive to increase value while minimizing risk to company
- Expand Procurement’s involvement in additional indirect categories. Collaborates closely with internal stakeholders to understand current operations and business needs to develop, execute, and maintain comprehensive category strategies. Key stakeholders include Production Operations, Engineering, Finance, Logistics, and HR.
- Evaluates and selects suppliers in terms of quality, service, cost, and capability. Ensures competitive pricing and service model versus industry trends and market dynamics.
- Conducts sourcing and supplier negotiations. Obtains proposals, evaluates proposals, selects or recommends suppliers, and negotiates terms and conditions.
- Manages supplier relationships including risk management, ongoing value improvement, KPI measurement, business reviews, and contract administration.
- Stays informed of supply market activities and trends.
- Identify and gain alignment to action novel or creative means to reduce cost, and/or improve service, to improve total value for money.
- Performs various reporting and spend analysis to support business goals. Including cost savings, cost avoidance, and cost increases.
- Leads and executes key projects. Includes improving procure-to-pay process and systems as well as P-card implementation.
- Oversees day to day requisition and purchase order activities.
- Other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Supply Chain or Business-related field and 5 years of pertinent procurement experience in a CPG company. Professional certifications are ideal.
- Ability to lead teams and influence stakeholders. Has a keen understanding of best in class category management and is able to able to demonstrate Procurement’s value proposition to stakeholders.
- Category management experience includes solid understanding of supply markets, cost drivers, sourcing strategy, and negotiation approach.
- Strong analytical skills and financial acumen.
- Results oriented including the ability to identify alternative options (goods, services, suppliers).
- Initiative-taking mindset.
- Advanced interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Challenges the status quo. Confident driving change initiatives.
- Demonstrated expertise using Microsoft Office applications.
- ERP systems experience.
- Experience in negotiating agreements and contracts with strong comprehension of legal and commercial terms and conditions
- Able to travel up to 30%
