The Pop/Rock Ensemble Teacher is responsible for leading and instructing a group of middle school students in a pop/rock ensemble setting outside of regular school hours, focusing on developing their musical skills and performance techniques, while fostering a passion for music through rehearsals and performances.

Reports to: Director of Fine Arts
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following. Additions and modifications to these representative duties and responsibilities are under the purview of the Superintendent of Schools and the Director of Fine Arts.
SCHEDULE & COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UNIT
This is an employment-at-will position, not subject to collective bargaining. The schedule is one day per week from 2:30pm-4:30:pm.

- Lead after-school rehearsals, providing instruction on instrument technique, sight-reading, and musical interpretation.
- Foster a collaborative learning environment where students can develop their skills and jam sessions.
- Provide feedback to students on their musical development and performance abilities.
- Prepare and direct the ensemble for performances and at school events, community concerts, and jazz festivals.
- Select appropriate repertoire that aligns with the ensemble's skill level and musical interests.
- Conduct rehearsals with a focus on stage presence and performance polish.
- Foster a positive and engaging learning environment that motivates students to explore and develop their musical creativity.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and student progress reports.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student performance and upcoming performances.
- Collaborate with the school's music department to coordinate schedules and ensure alignment with overall music curriculum.
- Prepare and arrange instruments and practice space for rehearsals
- Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss and abuse
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Fine Arts or Superintendent

QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education
- Proven experience teaching ensembles at the secondary level
- Excellent instrumental playing skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent computer/technology skills with the ability to utilize various computer software and app programs
- Passion for music and a commitment to fostering student creativity
- Able to lead rehearsals effectively and provide feedback to students
- A self-reflective, active learner capable of interactive dialogue with all members of the school community
- Ability to properly manage confidential information
- Able to supervise students of various ages in different school settings (playground, cafeteria, etc.)
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and respect for others with the ability to establish rapport with and relate to students, caregivers, and coworkers with respect, compassion, tact and understanding
- Strong commitment to equity, inclusion, diversity, and anti-racist pedagogy
PREFERRED CANDIDATES WILL
- Possess a valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education licensure in Music: Vocal/Instrumental/General
