Position Title:Instructional Assistant
Reports To:Principal and/or Assistant Principal
Position
Description & Goals:To assist teachers in providing an innovative, high quality education program designed to meet the needs of the children in the Newburyport Public Schools. Instructional Assistants will work with school staff to create an educational environment in which quality and continuity are key factors in educating the students.
Responsibilities:
Plans regularly with the Classroom Teacher to support direct instruction to children individually, in small groups, and in classroom settings.
Provides assistance with classroom activities.
Supports the collection of data for student academic, social, emotional, and behavioral goals.
Supports the Classroom Teacher in establishing effective classroom routines and procedures.
Provides support to students and teachers during specialty content classes (Art, Music, PE, etc.).
Monitors students during lunch and recess blocks for the purpose of maintaining safety and inclusivity.
Manages individual and classroom behavior, using Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports in alignment with school-wide core values.
Assist in the organization of the classroom environment and preparation of class materials to maximize student learning. Assists in classroom
Serve as a Substitute Teacher in the absence of the Classroom Teacher as needed.
Maintains confidentiality of personal student information.
Models enthusiasm and love for learning
Holds all students accountable to high expectations for proficiency and growth.
Promotes and manages collaborative learning.
Maintains respectful, collegial, and collaborative relationships with colleagues.
Contributes positively to the professional culture of the school.
Performs other related duties as requested by the Principal/Assistant Principal.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum of one year of experience working with middle school children
Experience implementing behavioral, social, and emotional strategies/skills w/ students
Fingerprints and CORI/SORI required
Competencies:
Dynamic person who responds to student needs positively.
General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in the teaching of students with disabilities.
Ability to maintain files and information
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students, and administrators.
Salary: As indicated by the CBA between the Newburyport School Committee and the Newburyport Instructional Assistants.
