JOB SUMMARY : The Relief Advocate will be on-call to fill in for the Victim Services Advocates as needed.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Ensure that the shelter is secure and oversee safety needs of residents.
One security check per shift
Complete resident intakes and orient new residents to the shelter.Make sure that all new residents get a tour, welcome packet, explanation of programs and make sure all initial paperwork requirements are met
Answer, respond to and screen crisis telephone calls.Enforce shelter / house rules and assign chores to residents.Advocate must be willing to engage in healthy communication styles with residents to help them participate successfully in the program.
Maintain accurate data and confidential resident files.Must update data every day at the end of the shift
Must provide solid information / updates to the next incoming advocateMaintain cleanliness and operation / upkeep of shelter.Advocate must be willing to help clean staff bathroom & community living spaces of shelter
Must make calls to maintenance, share information about maintenance concerns with other staff and management so any repairs needed can be made.Make sure the shelter has food and any household or other items needed, and help manage food storage and take care of subsistence foods that are brought into shelter for the residents.Provide peer counseling to residents and record interactions.Advocate must meet with every resident to ensure that participants are receiving support and getting any advocacy needed to help meet goals.
Refer residents to proper community service organizations and assist in utilization of available resources.Provide groups for residents.Provide formal and informal support groups for residents.
Participate in weekly staff and / or shelter meetingsAttend training as required.Perform other duties as required by supervisor(s).Participates in regular supervisory meetings and all required training.OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES :
Participates in all appropriate training functions.Must be willing to attend meetings, provide direct-service advocacy & do minimal public speakingReceive training for on-call advocacy and work on-call status and overtime in addition to regular hoursW ORK ACTIVITIES

Agency is a mandated tobacco, drug and alcohol free workplace.General office environment, shared office space.Daily use of computer and phones.Able to endure and balance work fluctuations, deadlines, and interruptions; must be able to work weekends, and long hours during occasional peak work periods.Occasional travel to Bethel, Anchorage and Lower 48 for training.Performs physical activities such as lifting, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.Must know proper lifting techniques and be able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS :
Responsible work ethic with reliable attendance.Yup'ik Speaker PreferredExperience working in residential facility preferredKnowledge of domestic violence, sexual assault, substance abuse preferredMust be willing to receive training for on-call advocacy and work on-call status and overtime in addition to regular hoursMust be able to pass background checkAbility to exercise good judgment, courtesy and tact.Willingness to model sober and non-violent behavior on and off the job.Must demonstrate sound judgment, professional boundaries and ethics and ability to maintain confidentiality.Agency recommends annual TB screening and physical as part of employee's personal wellness plan (Recommendation - Not a requirement of this position)
