What are the responsibilities and job description for the Western NY Associate Coordinator position at Rural & Migrant Ministry, Inc.?
Rural & Migrant Ministry, Inc. works for the creation of a just, rural New York State by nurturing leadership, standing with the disenfranchised, especially farmworkers, rural workers, and their families, and changing unjust systems and structures.
Our goals for Western New York include the following:
❖ Creating a Center that is a hub of energy/activity in the region for farmworkers, rural workers, and youth that focuses on farmworker justice, welcomes people from across NYS, and supports union organizing.
❖ Developing a strong Rural Academy of the People
❖ Developing a solid rural Youth Empowerment Program
❖ Developing a strong Rural Women’s Empowerment Program
❖ Building a strong ally & donor base
❖ Work hand in hand with the YEP team which includes helping to develop and implement semi-annual State-wide YEP retreats/Institutes and Overnight Camp.
Working in partnership with RMM staff, the Western New York Associate Coordinator would be responsible for the following:
- Work with the WNY Regional Coordinator to develop Liturgia as a Center for
farmworkers, rural workers, and ally leadership by nurturing relationships with
partners, including Grace! Hobart William Smith College and others.
- Work with the WNY Regional Coordinator to develop new programming and
activities.
- Outreach within the farmworker and rural worker communities by reaching out to
and meeting with workers throughout the region in their homes, and camps, by
phone. Etc.
- Run and coordinate the Justice Organization of Youth program. Including:
- Design a year-long curriculum that includes goals and activities.
- Coordinates and supervises regular weekly meetings and sub-meetings of
JOY, ensuring participation, leadership development, and safety.
- Develop and maintain a strong relationship with Wayne, Ontario, Seneca,
and Yates Counties.
- Arrange transportation for JOY meetings, the Summer Day Program, and
other events in WNY.
- Run and coordinate the College Prep Program (CPP). Including:
- Maintaining or updating the CPP curriculum to include workshops for
students and parents.
- Coordinate regular meetings with members to ensure participation and
increase graduation rates.
- Plan the Summer Institute.
- Maintain the College Prep Program Newsletters updated for students.
- Develop relationships with parents, helping them to be allies to the program.
- Recruit and supervise interns, counselors, and volunteers.
- Direct the Summer Day Program (on-site presence), develop and implement a
transportation system (which may involve you driving as well)
- Develop the Curriculum for the summer youth program (utilizing the
organization-wide summer theme)
- Recruit and Participate at the Overnight Leadership Camp
- Perform all other duties assigned by the WNY Regional Coordinator.
Requirements of the Position Include:
- Experience working with youth, especially disenfranchised youth.
- Experience in working for systemic changes.
- Committed to social and economic justice amid disenfranchised communities.
- preferred but not required
- Strong interest in working with community-based organizations, including faith and
academic communities, who will become partners to the program.
- Creative and flexible - realizing this is more than a '9 to 5' job.
- Able to work evenings regularly and occasionally on weekends.
- A strategist with strong interpersonal, networking, and organizing skills.
- An independent worker and yet also committed to teamwork.
- Self-motivated with excellent speaking skills
- Proficiency in computer packages, including MS Office applications and Google Drive
- A driver’s license and a willingness to drive many miles to connect with students and
partners.
- A willingness to work with participants at home, school, and community.
This is a full-time position with flexible hours and days, based out of our Center in Lyons, NY.
Compensation includes:
- Salary of $65,000
- Full Medical and Dental Insurance
- Four weeks of vacation
- Contributions to a Retirement Plan (403B)
