Job Description and Profile
The Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor/Intern (CADC/I) provides exemplary outpatient client services to under the supervision of the Clinical Director, or their immediate supervisor of
Rural Nevada Counseling (RNC); the Agency. The CADC/I provides integrated substance misuse counseling to individuals with qualifying alcohol, tobacco, drug, or other controlled substance misuse disorders. Under the Agency’s Clinical Supervisor, the CADC/I counsels individuals and leads group sessions that promots interventions designed to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making positive changes and restore clients to their highest level of functioning. The CADC/I interviews Agency’s clients, reviews records, and confers with mental health and/or behavior disorders professionals to evaluate and determine their suitability for participation in specific outpatient programs provided by the Agency. The CADC/I develops clients’ outpatient treatment plans based on research, clinical Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) criteria, and the American Society of Addiction
Medicine (ASAM) criteria. The CADC/I reviews and evaluates progress in relation to measurable goals described in the treatment and care plans established in conjunction with the client. The
CADC/I participates in case presentations, evaluations, and staff meetings and facilitates
Discharge Plans. The CADC/I plans and implements follow-up and aftercare programs for clients to be discharged from outpatient treatment programs. The CADC/I acts as liaison and coordinates counseling efforts with mental health or other medical professional staff such as doctors, nurses or social workers.
Reports Directly to: Site Office Manager and Clinical Supervisor or Clinical Director
Duties and Responsibilities under Clinical Supervision
- Provides skilled, holistic and individualized integrated substance misuse counseling to individuals with qualifying alcohol, tobacco, drug, or other controlled substance misuse disorders per Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Agency (SAPTA) and
Medicaid Standards.
- Confers with referring agencies, acting in the clients’ best interests
- Prepares clear, relevant and accurate reports and documents services and individual or group notes in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) within 24 hours.
- Conducts intake assessments and prepares substance abuse evaluations
- Maintains composure and awareness during crisis intervention
- Analyze case information and reach sound diagnostic and treatment plans according to
DSM-5 criteria and the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria
- Maintains Credentials as required by the State of Nevada Board of Examiners for
Alcohol Drug and Gambling Counselors
- Works within the scope of practice and competency as well as document client’s progress and interventions appropriately under CADC/I approved CPT and HCPCS codes and according to the requirement of State of Nevada Medicaid
- Maintains professional and personal boundaries
- Understands State and Federal laws and HIPAA regarding privacy confidentiality, and ethics along with mandated reporting
- Particpates in all required trainings and attend continuing education classes as required
- Participates in case presentations, evaluations, and staff meetings and facilitates
Discharge Plans
- Bills only for services provided
- Other duties as assigned
Education, Qualifications and Experience
- Must be a citizen of the United States or is lawfully entitled to remain and work in the
United States –proof of citizenship or proof that an applicant is able to work in theUnited States
- Must pass FBI Criminal background check
- Must Pass any drug testing as required by the Agency
- Must be over 21 years of age
- Drivers’ History Report with no major violations
- Must maintain active CADC/I Certification from the State Board of Examiners for
Alcohol, Drug, and Gambling Counselors
- AA Degree from an accredited college or university in a field of social science approved by the Nevada State Board; and has completed 4,000 hours supervised counseling of alcohol and drug abusers and pass the written and oral examinations by the Board Pursuant to NRS 641C290, or
- Interns must be attending college for a minimum of one course each semester intern does not already possess a bachelor’s degree or higher.
An intern must complete bachelor’s degree within 5 years.
- Sixty (60) credits towards bachelor’s degree in an approved social science field.
- 6 hours of training (CEU’s) specific to Confidentiality/HIPAA
- 6 hours of training (CEU’s) specific to ethics for alcohol and drug counselors
- The Nevada State Board may consider whether the course descriptions for a degree from an accredited college or university that includes at least twenty-four (24) semester hours or thirty-two (32) quarter hours of courses relating to counseling qualify the degree as a degree in a “field of social science.”
- The Nevada State Board will interpret the term “field of social science” to mean any program in: Counseling alcohol and substance abusers;
Counseling problem gamblers; Psychiatry; Psychology; Social work;Marriage and Family Therapy; Nursing or Medicine.Physical Demands
