Certified Pharmacy Technician

Job Summary:

• We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Certified Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy team. The Telepharmacy Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the remote delivery of pharmacy services by assisting pharmacists with medication dispensing, patient counseling, and inventory management, all through digital communication platforms. This position involves preparing and dispensing prescriptions, providing technical support for telepharmacy operations, and ensuring accurate medication handling. The technician interacts with pharmacist remotely via telecommunication tools to deliver timely, accurate, and compliant pharmacy services. A key aspect of the role is maintaining high standards of patient care and confidentiality, while ensuring adherence to pharmacy laws and regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Medication Dispensing: Assist in preparing and dispensing medications based on prescriptions received electronically or via remote communication. Ensure accurate labeling and packaging of medications.
• Patient Interaction: Communicate with patients and caregivers via telecommunication tools to provide medication counseling and answer questions about prescriptions. Collect necessary health information and document interactions.
• Prescription Verification: Support pharmacists in reviewing prescriptions for accuracy, dosage, interactions, and potential allergies. Escalate complex cases to the pharmacist for clinical review.
• Inventory Management: Assist with monitoring and managing inventory levels of prescription and OTC medications, pharmacy supplies, and pharmacy equipment. Place orders for restocking and ensure all medications are stored and handled according to safety standards.
• Compliance & Safety: Ensure all operations comply with pharmacy laws, regulations, and ethical standards, including proper documentation of all activities. Maintain patient confidentiality and protect privacy in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
• Technical Support: Operate and maintain telepharmacy equipment, including medication counting machines, scanning devices, and telecommunication platforms. Troubleshoot technical issues as needed to ensure smooth operation.
• Pharmacy Records Management: Assist with the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date patient records, prescription logs, and inventory records in the pharmacy management system.
• Collaboration: Work closely with other pharmacy staff, including remote pharmacists, to ensure seamless delivery of pharmacy services and patient care. Participate in team meetings to review workflow and improve service delivery.

Experience/Qualifications:

• Certification: Current certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or equivalent.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a pharmacy technician, preferably in a retail or telepharmacy environment, will train the right candidate.
• Knowledge & Skills:
• Strong understanding of pharmacy operations, drug dispensing procedures, and medication safety.
• Proficient in pharmacy software and telepharmacy tools.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare providers via phone, video, and messaging platforms.
• Familiarity with pharmaceutical terminology, drug interactions, and patient counseling.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot minor technical issues with telepharmacy equipment and software.

Working Conditions:

• Work Environment: Remote tele environment based in Coon Rapids, Iowa, with occasional travel to pharmacy locations if needed for training or other purposes
• Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 9:30 am – 5:30 pm.

Pay: $15.00 - $23.00 per hour
