The Quality Inspector I supports the release and shipment of conforming, custom built commercial trucks in accordance with the company’s established quality control protocols. They also perform quality control inspections, checks and verification tests of custom-built commercial vehicles. This includes visual, mechanical, electrical inspections, and system performance tests. The role aides the organization with commercial vehicle inspections through ongoing product compliance and documentation.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs in-process and final inspections of aftermarket equipment installations; then performs functional tests for installed products as required.
  • Produces thorough and accurate inspection reports, ensuring satisfactory documentation as evidence.
  • Provides a consistent line of communication to the team to help ensure prompt resolution of defects and a high level of customer service.
  • Detects, and properly identifies, non-conforming products and materials, according to company policy.
  • Reads and comprehends quality related information such as Quality Alerts, deviations and recalls, etc.; where applicable, add daily inspection documentation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

The individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. It is required that the individual is accurate with good time management and organizational skills. Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • General experience in mechanical or fabrication setting preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a commercial vehicle service, manufacturing or fabrication shop environment, preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year experience reading and interpreting build specifications, work instructions, basic schematics, and relevant industry standards, with an application toward product and service provision conformance, preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year experience with common inspection methods and practices, including use of measuring devices, functional testing of equipment/systems, and visual inspections for quality of workmanship, preferred.
  • Must possess a current and valid driver license with a driving record which meets the insurability guidelines set forth by the company’s insurance carrier.

Other Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business documents, and technical procedures.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and effectively present information giving responses to questions from peers and management.
  • Ability to solve practical problems with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to climb into and out of a commercial vehicle for the purpose of testing and inspecting work performed by the technicians.
  • Ability to give effective verbal and written communication to team.
  • Ability to foster collaboration with team to accomplish the company's objectives.
  • Supports and promotes the company's Safety Initiative Program, as a team member and an individual contributor.
  • Must maintain professional appearance.
  • Computer skills.
