Pay Range: $34.89 - $56.78 per hour

Summary: Manages extracorporeal circuit, for patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedure.

Other information: Required Job Qualifications:

• Currently licensed by the State of Illinois as a Registered Nurse, Registered Respiratory Therapist, or Certified Clinical Perfusionist. .Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or Associate’s degree in nursing (ADN) (New graduates must have acceptance into an accredited school of nursing within 6 months from date of hire, *Within 1 year from the date of hire, employee must be enrolled in a BSN program. *RNs hired prior to 10/22/2020 are grandfathered in with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or diploma in nursing, with no further need to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BAN or BSN). *Chief Nursing Officer must provide approval for any RNs with ADN degree hired after 10/22/2020, based upon unit need. ADN RNs hired after 10/22/2020 must show continued enrolment towards a BSN degree with a signature of contract stipulating a BSN degree must be completed within 3 years of hire, Failure to do so will result in termination.
• Working knowledge of neonatal and pediatric congenital heart disease and physiology.
• Experience in a pediatric or neonatal critical care setting.
• Satisfactory completion of RUMC ECMO specialist training program.
• Ability to work in a complex clinical environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a highly stressful work environment, where attention to detail is necessary to prevent patient morbidity and mortality.
• High level of analytical ability.
• Working knowledge of computers.

Responsibilities: 1. Monitoring of the extracorporeal circuit. 2. Ensuring adequate organ and tissue perfusion and oxygenation of the ECMO patient. 3. Troubleshooting and replacing malfunctioning components of the extracorporeal circuit, which may include emergent life threatening situations. 4. Under the direction of a physician is responsible for administration of fluids and/or blood products via the extracorporeal circuit. 5. Testing and maintaining of adequate anti-coagulation. 6. Taking scheduled call shifts.
