Pay Range: $38 - $56.78 per hour

Summary:
Performs diagnostic cardiopulmonary diagnostic testing using several different types of complex medical equipment. Performs quality control and performance checks on equipment. Administers various medications, gases, devices, and procedures. Provides patient and family education. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:
1. Performs pulmonary function testing, applies knowledge and testing protocols to determine extent of needed testing, performs bedside screening spirometry.
2. Performs arterial puncture and blood gas analysis.
3. Obtains pertinent patient history.
4. Performs exercise/stress testing.
5. Performs desaturation and airline simulation studies.
6. Obtains sweat samples and analyzes chloride levels.
7. Decontaminates equipment.
8. Prepares bronchoscopy suite for procedures, assists the physician and nurse during the procedure, prepares the room for the next patient.
9. Provides patient/family education on disease process and management and how to use medication administration devices correctly.
10. Functions as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
11. Documents work timely, completely, and accurately, including documentation in the patient medical record, documentation in department records, and patient billing.
12. Precepts new employees and respiratory care students.
13. Participates in CQI and QA initiatives including work audits and committee participation; develops protocols in conjunction with department leadership.
