The APM will participate in the conceptual development of a construction project and assist in overseeing project scheduling, budgeting, and implementation.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
The Company expects and requires all employees to observe and fulfill all safety responsibilities as outlined in workplace safety training and actively work toward maintaining a safe workplace. Employees are authorized and obligated to stop work on any task or series of tasks whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or is observed as well as bring problems to the attention of the immediate supervisor, HSE Manager, or HR Manager. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Regular attendance and punctuality are required of all employees. Employment at Russell Marine, LLC is on an “at-will” basis. There is no contract of employment between Russell Marine, LLC and any one or all of its employees unless explicitly stated elsewhere. Employment security cannot be guaranteed for or by any employee. SUMMARY: As an Assistant Project Manager (APM) at Russell Marine, LLC, this position is responsible for assisting the Manager in planning, directing, and coordinating activities concerned with the construction and maintenance of structures related to marine terminals, dock facilities, or railroad bridges. The APM will participate in the conceptual development of a construction project and assist in overseeing project scheduling, budgeting, and implementation.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Assist the Project Manager in preparing contracts or negotiating revisions to contractual agreements with consultants and clients, including interpreting and explaining plans and contract terms to representatives of the owner or developer, administrative staff, workers, or clients.
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance or construction project activities to meet deadlines, such as reviewing job specifications to determine appropriate construction methods, applying for and obtaining all necessary permits or licenses, and requesting supplies or materials for successful project completion.
- Conduct inspections or reviews on projects to monitor compliance with construction and safety codes or other regulations.
- Assist the Project Manager in establishing the project chart of accounts, developing and updating the CPM construction schedule, developing subcontracts and purchase orders, and producing a responsibility listing for the entire project staff.
- Collaborate with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and/or design professionals to discuss and resolve matters, such as work procedures, complaints, or construction problems.
- Maintain job costs, maintain accurate reports, and assist the Project Manager and Superintendent in preparing quantity reports, analyzing the labor costs, and completing monthly profit project records.
- Track, review, and process change proposals, change orders, owner payment applications, and claims.
- Investigate damage, accidents, or delays at construction sites to ensure that proper construction procedures are being followed.
- Provide administrative support and training to the project staff and engineers.
- Develop and implement new or modified plans in response to delays, bad weather, construction site emergencies, and environmental protection programs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Project Manager.
- Education: Bachelors in Construction Management or Engineering from an accredited college or university. Must possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or be willing/eligible to obtain one upon hire. Must have a valid Driver’s License.
- Experience: Three (3) years of experience with project engineering in marine construction.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA): Must possess general knowledge of and experience with HCSS, Heavy Bid, Excel, and CAD. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills in English to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers. Must possess the ability for problem-solving and be able to interpret a variety of instructions given in written oral, diagram, or schedule forms. Must possess a working knowledge of standard construction practices and law.
- Certification(s): Adult First Aid w/ CPR and AED. Project Management Professional (PMP).
- Experience: Five (5) years of experience with project engineering in marine construction.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA): Proficient in HCSS, Heavy Bid, and scheduling software such as Primavera P6. Thorough knowledge and skills in marine construction operations, such as welding, pile driving, crane operations, barge operations, etc.
- The individual must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
- The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes a hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal floatation devices (PFD), and/or other protective equipment.
- The individual may be required to work long hours and/or weekends. Additionally, some out-of-town or overnight travel may be required.
- The individual may occasionally be required to sit in a vehicle for up to 8 hours.
- The individual may be required to walk, step, climb, or otherwise move from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
- The individual may be required on occasion to climb ladders, stoop, board boats, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
- The individual may be required to lift objects with a minimum of 10 lbs. and a maximum single-person lift of 50 lbs. This could result in frequent lifting or carrying depending on project needs.
