Position Summary:
Estimator is responsible for estimating commercial HVAC projects including take-offs from plan sets and analysis of written specifications. Provide routine job bidding reports, job follow-up reports, handle internal calls and provide quotes via online database. Provide plan and spec estimating support to multiple sales offices within the Sigler organization.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review customer provided Plan and Spec documents to determine approval and favorability to bid
- Coordinate with Engineers when approval and/or equivalent product is unclear
- Research and compare technical literature performance data of competitor products to make an educated determination of favorability and equal product
- Prepare bids of Commercial HVAC projects using estimating and job tracking software
- Coordinate with outside vendors, sales personnel and internal department resources to prepare quotes
- Maintain records of quotes and other project related materials
- Manage quotes and job tracking databases for the Commercial HVAC sales personnel
- Participate in sales meetings and training events
- May be required to travel to other sales offices or manufacturer’s facilities

- Exhibit strong attention to detail
- Computer literate and type at least 35 wpm
- Adept with basic math skills using cost and sell multipliers as well as understanding of margin and markup percentages
- Knowledge of basic HVAC Industry practices, as well as knowledge of equipment, design, building codes, etc.
- Understanding of project follow up, lost, sold, etc.
- Effectively and appropriately exercise independent discretion and judgment in the absence of direct guidance
- Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- BS degree in engineering preferred
- 3 years of estimating or engineering experience in the HVAC industry preferred, including estimation of equipment such as package units, split systems, chillers, air handlers, fan coils, fans, etc.
