Summary
The primary purpose of a Laboratory Technician is product analysis and data collection.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs daily quality control testing
- Conducts analysis of aggregate samples
- Performs lab production and testing of asphalt emulsions and cutbacks, and evaluates asphalt mix design
- Ensure compliance with job, agency, or state specifications with routine asphalt testing
- Performs data collection and reporting to meet job and agency specifications
- Maintains an organized and clean lab
- Follows all safety policies and practices
- All other duties as assigned
Skills and Education
Required
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Solid math and reading skills, and the ability to understand technical manuals
- Well established organizational skills with strong attention to detail, record-keeping skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Customer focused attitude
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Products
Preferred
- Associate’s degree or higher (ex. Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Civil Engineering, etc.)
- Experience in and a strong knowledge of asphalt and aggregate specifications
- Certification in asphalt and aggregates
- Experience in asphalt quality control or as a Certified Aggregate Technician
Job Requirements
- Ability to work in a team environment with production and sales personnel, as well as the ability to work independently without close supervision
- Must be able to work overtime as needed
- Ability to lift, up to 60 pounds as needed
- Ability to perform work which requires frequent and regular movement of wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Ability to perform work which requires frequent and regular walking and standing
- Ability to see, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity
- Ability to operate standard office equipment including a computer, copier, fax, phone and other similar office equipment
- Ability to operate laboratory specific technology and equipment
Work Environment
This position requires most of its responsibilities be performed in an asphalt emulsions manufacturing plant laboratory. Work conditions may involve exposure to hot materials, chemicals, fumes, dust, odors, gases, and other substances used in a construction environment.
