What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Staking Technician position at Rutherford Electric Membership Corporation?
We are looking for an individual with a positive attitude, who can work as a team member; functioning under intense time pressure; and responding in a positive manner to supervision. The Assistant Staking Technician position works in a progressive learning environment with Staking Technicians to assist with the origination of all necessary service order/work order construction documents, staking sheets and sketches or drawings required for the construction of the facilities, as related to applications for new electrical services, or modifications and upgrades to existing services and distribution lines.
Position requires an Associate Degree in engineering. Prior experience with electrical utility, electrical or construction contractor will be considered. The ability to read construction prints and maps is required. Candidate should have working knowledge of GIS and/or CAD/AutoCAD software. Position requires strong interpersonal, listening, problem solving, verbal and written communication skills, coupled with an attention to detail, good organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple assignments. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Engineering. Must live in the Burke-McDowell district or be willing to relocate.
The Assistant Staking Technician provides engineering assistance in the areas of general design work, providing documents and orders for construction, maintenance, and retirement of electrical system facilities. Schedules appointments and meets with members, developers, and contractors at the work site providing input regarding the design and construction of new facilities, or upgrades, modifications, or removal of existing facilities. Estimates cost of providing facilities and service to new and existing members, including contributions in aid to construction per REMC policies. Assists in the design, staking, procuring of easements, and creating required paperwork (drawings, staking sheets, materials lists, cost estimates, tree trimming, tree replacements, joint use documentation, etc.) for but not limited to the following types of construction projects:
o General construction (overhead and underground)
o System improvement
o Construction Work Plan
o Member services
Also maintains records necessary for work order accounting procedures, regulatory reports, joint use of facilities reports and other reporting as required and completes regular reports on a timely basis, advising the Engineer of unusual situations or problem areas. This position may assist construction crews and service personnel in the field as needed, particularly during storm restoration.
The successful candidate will be required to learn specifications for power line maintenance, construction and surveying techniques and be familiar with, or learn, procedures required for deed research at courthouse. This individual will also learn and apply Cooperative Policy as it relates to extension of service throughout the Cooperative territory.
