Position Description

As a Heavy Equipment Operator at Rutledge Excavating, you will play a key role in safely and efficiently operating various types of heavy machinery for site development, utility installation, and excavation projects. This position requires skilled operation of equipment such as excavators, dozers, backhoes, and more.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Safely operate heavy equipment to perform excavation, trenching, backfilling, and grading tasks.
• Fine grade fill to foreman-provided specifications.
• Maintain a clean and hazard-free job site.
• Monitor equipment gauges to ensure safe and proper operation.
• Dig trenches, backfill excavations, and compact earth to specified grades using heavy equipment.
• Assist with setting up and dismantling temporary structures, traffic barricades, and shoring as needed.
• Collaborate with team members to achieve project goals.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and incident reporting procedures.

Position Requirements:

Qualifications:

• Valid state driver’s license (or ability to obtain prior to employment).
• Minimum 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in site excavation or utility work.
• Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Ability to travel to job sites as needed.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 lbs regularly.
• Frequent use of hands/fingers to operate controls, and ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb.
• Comfortable working in outdoor conditions, including inclement weather, heat, and humidity.
• Tolerance for loud work environments.
