Objective Summary: The Planning Associate will support the project team by designing portions of projects and/or supporting planning/development entitlement processes such as sector plans, comprehensive planning and rezonings, as well as municipal planning work including visioning, strategic and policy plans, and land development code formulation. The person in this position will also be responsible for addressing land planning and design issues under minimal supervision. In this role, an employee will be expected to develop and demonstrate proficiency in regard to the essential functions of the job found below.
Responsibilities:
- Understand project scope:
- Confer with other team members and provide regular updates.
- Conduct due diligence for project:
- Gather current and historical data from multiple reference sources (e.g., zoning ordinances, master plans, existing drawings).
- Review with project team members including Project Manager or Director.
- Use and understand land and site planning procedures and regulations:
- Apply appropriate RVi standard guidelines as well as local and state guidelines.
- Ensure Product Quality and RVi Reputations
- Follow RVi QA QC Manual, protocols, and established standards.
- Achieve Performance Objectives
- Meet or exceed designated chargeability, hours worked.
- Contribute to team effort.
- Accomplish team-driven results as needed and attend meetings with project team
- Good communication skills, both oral and written
- Entitlement and Policy Planning (where applicable):
- Coordination of submittals and ensuring delivery to various jurisdictions
- Project-related research and other written materials to support various projects
- Assisting with monthly updates to project schedules and in the tracking and management of project deadlines and milestones
- Assisting other departments through coordination of permit submittal packages, zoning research, and other administrative tasks.
- Additionally, unless a strictly policy planning position:
- Conduct field work by participating in site investigation (e.g., tree identification, natural
features inventories, general site visits). - Perform a variety of land planning tasks (e.g., conceptual layout, site analysis plans,
planning reports, site calculations) - Utilize AutoCAD and graphics-related software packages.
- Understanding and implementation of planning design process
- Able to correctly produce plans, calculations, and graphics as requested
- Correctly incorporate client and project team member's comments into redline plans

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture, or industry equivalent.
Experience:
- Planning Associates require zero-four (0-4) years of practical experience in related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, AdobeCS, and GIS software.
- For policy planning positions, proficiency outside of Microsoft Office Suite is preferred but not required.
