The successful candidate will primarily provide energy regulatory legal support for RWECE’s teams in connection with the development, operation, purchase, and sale of grid-scale renewable energy generation (wind, solar) and storage assets throughout the United States.In addition to providing essential legal guidance, the successful candidate will be expected to actively support the company’s strategic objectives and contribute to regulatory advocacy efforts, working to influence policy and regulatory developments that impact the company’s operations and goals. The successful candidate must be inquisitive, detail-oriented, team-oriented, and comfortable being part of a growing and dynamic corporate environment.Role Responsibilities : Advise on Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) jurisdictional requirements, including compliance with laws, regulations, orders, and open access transmission tariffsObtain and maintain key energy market regulatory approvals (e.g., market based rate authority, qualifying facility status)Advise Transmission team on navigating interconnection queues both inside and outside of regional wholesale energy markets (ISO / RTOs)Advise Market Operations teams on market participant registrations and tariff complianceConduct regulatory diligence of potential financing and M&A transactionsTrain RWECE employees on energy market regulatory complianceReview, draft, and negotiate contracts related to regulatory complianceSupport North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) reliability standards complianceSupport compliance with various state energy regulatory requirements, including the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT)Advance RWECE’s strategic interests by contributing to policy advocacy and staying informed on key regulatory and market developments (engaging with industry trade associations, regulatory bodies, and working groups)Proactively support the company's position in relevant rulemakings and regulatory orders that could affect RWECE's businessEngage outside counsel when necessaryPosition requires (a) close alignment and cooperation with the company’s legal team in Chicago, Illinois, Austin, Texas, and other locations(b) close alignment with business partners throughout RWECE and its parent company and affiliates(c) demonstrated ability to apply a practical focus to a variety of complex and ever-changing legal issues, with a view to finding viable business solutions for those legal issues while supporting the company's strategic objectives and advocacy effortsJob Requirements and Experiences : J.D. (Juris Doctor) degreeAdmission to a state bar association in the United StatesMinimum 5 years experience as an energy regulatory attorneySuccessful candidates are required to have specific legal knowledge and experience in energy market regulation, and preferably have experience in some but not all of the following areas : (1) Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) practice(2) Transmission interconnection queues(3) Wholesale electricity market operations and compliance(4) North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) compliance(5) Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) practiceIndustry experience : wholesale electricity generation related businesses in the U.S., with particular emphasis on legal work associated with independent power producers and their compliance with laws and regulationsEnergy regulatory experience within a government agency will also be strongly consideredStrong interpersonal skills, with ability to manage a variety of client relationshipsDemonstrated desire to learn about RWECE and keep current regarding the unique challenges facing renewable generation development and operationsExcellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams; ability to become proficient with electronic tariff and database management softwareStrong leadership and communication, and ability to meet deadlinesStrong organization skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deliverablesAbility to multi-task, while working independently and as part of a teamMotivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilitiesProven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgroundsResponds well to direction, is easy to challenge and develop, and is coachableIs detail-oriented, has strong business acumen, and a sound understanding of business conceptsThis position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWECE office and field locations.Pay range : The annual base salary range for this position in Illinois and New York is $132,000 - $198,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations.
