Your role
RWE is hiring a strategic, collaborative leader who will be a driver of success in the fast growing U.S. offshore wind industry. In this role you will support the success of a broad portfolio of offshore wind projects by managing diverse teams to deliver comprehensive proposals to develop offshore wind projects at competitive rates across the country. Importantly, these projects include integrating innovative localization and workforce development strategies aimed at producing real benefits for the communities in which we work. A successful candidate will have exceptional project management skills, be capable of collaborating across borders, and have a strong understanding of energy markets and the commercial opportunities to improve project outcomes.
Your future plans
As Bid Manager you will;
- Lead the bid management workstream including preparation and management internal schedules and budgets to deliver timely bid packages including obtaining internal and partnership approvals
- Develop subject matter expertise on offshore wind markets, the federal lease auction rules, and offtake mechanisms that vary by U.S. state
- Understand and communicate balanced scoring criteria including stakeholder mgmt., viability criteria, local content, transmission, etc.,
- Contribute to the identification of strategic levers and implementation thereof into the project’s business case to increase the competitiveness and deliverability of the bid.
- Identify key success factors that will shape a successful bid
- Using financial models, help to develop methodology and evaluate different bid options and tactics.
- Prepare and drive alignment with the bid strategy that responds to the identified success factors including bid scenarios
- Advise internal stakeholders on all bid strategy related topics and project requirements, including coordination across workstreams (e.g., technical, permitting, HSE) and “early and often” communication with senior management
- Manage large teams of internal and external colleagues with diverse skills sets to prepare written proposal materials
- Prepare, manage, and submit tender documentation including pre-qualification requirements and bid submissions.
- Ensure bid submissions achieve compliance with all regulations.
- Develop protocols for bidding in partnerships (if applicable)
- Management of project assumption book and business case for early development projects
- Support each project with optimal wind farm concept selection and optimization through economic analysis of design options
- Site Prospecting and market development : Help to shape recommendations to senior development team on best possible site locations for future expansion through development of holistic risk and opportunity analysis of site options (e.g. permitting, grid access). Calculation of LCOEs to enable comparison of prospective sites.
- Ensure best practice approaches, tools are shared across and transferred into bid projects.
Your profile
- Degree in business administration, engineering, renewable energy or similar disciplines.
- Track record of relevant professional experience in the commercialization of major- or mega- projects which should include commercial strategy, managing project bids/tenders or leading business development projects.
- A collaborative leader with the presence to lead a diverse team across international borders and manage multiple stakeholders, and the confidence and determination to take responsibility and ownership of multiple projects at any one time.
- Excellent communication skills with proven ability to persuade, challenge and build credibility at all levels, across functions of the business.
- Proven stakeholder management experience including with external parties
- Ability to make recommendations and implement decisions effectively in a manner consistent with sound bid management principles, and in a timely manner, while reporting key issues to the Project Lead
- Hands-on experience devising the analysis and implementation of strategies or similar within commercial projects is desirable. Previous experience within the renewable energy industry including offshore wind is preferred but not required.
- General understanding of the components of offshore wind assets including cost drivers and key risks and opportunities is desirable.
- A track record of personal responsibility for driving own development & career growth, broadening your professional competencies, skills and own learnings across commercial, technical, legal and policy fields.
- A flexible approach as some international travel can be expected.
- Excellent English writing, speaking, and presentation skills
