Job Overview:
Responsible for the day-to-day operation of Biomedical Engineering department at a local facility, or multiple facilities. Is the principal liaison between the local facility and the system for medical equipment management. Responsible for the execution of department/organizational goals, policies, regulatory requirements and staff performance. Works with the department Director in establishing goals, policies and staffing. All other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Minimum AAS degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology or equivalent work/military experience in Biomedical Engineering.
- 7 years of hands on experience
- 2 years of supervisory/management/leadership experience
- Knows how to use biomedical/electronic test equipment
- Knows principles and function of electricity/electronics
- Knows how to use MS Office and other computer applications
- Knows various types of medical equipment and medical terminology
- Knowledge of healthcare regulatory bodies and standards (Joint Commission, CMS, FDA, DOH & Others)

- Bachelors Degree preferred

Essential Functions:
Resource and Staff Development/Supervision 40%

- Supervises all technical staff to promote a high level of efficiencies and technical support within the Biomedical Engineering Department at a local facility as follows:
- Creates On-Call Schedules for all qualified technical staff.
- Conducts disciplinary action and correction as required.
- Assigns incoming service requests as necessary prioritizing those that are of an emergent nature.
- Assists technical staff in the daily up keep of supplies, parts, and repairs to minimize equipment downtime and shortages.
- Creates monthly schedule of medical equipment due for inspection.
- Manages staffing levels so there is no interruption in support.
- Supervises all technical staff to promote a high level of efficiencies and technical support within the Biomedical Engineering Department at a local facility as follows:
Performs/oversees new employee orientation education and coordinates cross-training activities to maintain a high level of technical skills.
- Assures that annual competencies and annual employee performance evaluations are current and completed on time
Performance Improvement Measurements/Quality Control 30%
- Validates work is completed on-time and productivity remains high.
- The Equipment Management Program is kept current and accurate for regulatory and service history purposes.
- Assures an accurate inventory of service literature to adequately support medical equipment.
- Monitors and reports preventive maintenance completion and inventory control reports. Incomplete work is followed up with all departments involved to find a resolution.
- Expected to be a member of at least 2 hospital wide committees.
- Provides a major role in the coordination of medical equipment safety notifications and recall alerts
- Assists technical staff in conducting proper incident investigations to validate either an equipment or user failure.
- Proactively works with Information Systems on medical equipment network connectivity, integration and software applications as necessary.
- Provides assistance to technical staff and validates the creating and entering of new preventive maintenance procedures with the understanding that the primary responsibility belongs with the biomedical staff.

- Maintains a positive working relationship to other departments by routinely interacting and collaborating with other departments within a facility.\
- Participates in safety rounding.
- Continuing education to maintain a high level of professionalism.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide medical equipment support to all age groups of patient populations.
- Participates in various activities (of long or short term duration) that target specific operational issues, concerns, perspectives or requirements.
- Follow up on User Error/User Abuse issues
- Aids in or is the lead of managing new equipment installations and project management activities.
Documentation 10%
- Document all activities in our work order system to meet regulatory and departmental requirements.
- All documentation will be accurate and complete.
- To validate a minimum of 85% productivity of work accomplished, and the entire team is at or above the minimum.
