Job Overview: The Technical Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing daily operations within the Chemistry, Hematology, and Blood Bank departments. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, maintains quality control, and provides technical expertise to laboratory staff. The supervisor will collaborate with other laboratory leadership and healthcare professionals to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality patient care. The role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to manage and optimize workflow in a dynamic laboratory environment.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor s degree in Medical Technology, or a related field (Master s degree preferred)
- Certification: MT/MLS (ASCP), MLT (ASCP), or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a clinical Laboratory setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role or lead role.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of laboratory methodologies, instrumentation, and regulatory requirements for Chemistry, Hematology, and Blood Bank.
- Skills: Leadership, problem-solving, team management, analytical thinking, and excellent communication.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and data analysis software.
Preferred:
- SBB (ASCP) preferred for Blood Bank.
Scheduling Requirements:
- Full Time
- Day Shift
- May require occasional evening, night, or weekend shifts based on laboratory needs.
Essential Functions:
- Operational & Technical Oversight:
- Supervise and coordinate daily operations in Chemistry, Hematology, and Blood Bank sections.
- Ensure proper functioning, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Develop, review, and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) in compliance with CLIA, CAP, AABB, and other regulatory agencies.
- Monitor test performance, troubleshoot technical issues, and implement corrective actions.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Maintain and oversee quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) programs to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Participate in internal and external audits and proficiency testing programs.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols, infection control policies, and accreditation requirements.
- Personnel Management & Training:
- Supervise, train, and evaluate laboratory personnel, ensuring staff competency and development.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback to team members.
- Schedule staff shifts to ensure adequate coverage and workload distribution.
- Facilitate continuing education opportunities and provide technical guidance to laboratory staff.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Act as a liaison between laboratory staff, pathologists, clinicians, and hospital administration.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical support and guidance to other departments as needed.
