Medical Technologist-Blood Bank Experience Required- Full Time Day Shift

Job Overview: The Blood Bank Medical Technologist performs routine and complex patient/sample pre-analytical and post-analytical compatibility tests using automated and non-automated methods, proficiency tests, quality control, preventative maintenance per established policies and procedures,

Provides accurate and reliable analytical results necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of the patients,

Maintains inventory of supplies, reagents and blood products, Maintains non-analytic equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, cell washers and centrifuges,

Qualifications:
Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related sciences.
• Two to three years’ clinical lab experience.
• Blood Bank Experience Required

Preferred:

• ASCP or equivalent certification preferred

Scheduling Requirements:

• Full Time
• Evening Shift

Essential Functions:

• Demonstrates a clear understanding and working knowledge of basic Transfusion Service concepts as evidenced by an ability to interpret blood group types, antibody screening and panels,
• Ability to keep up and maintain desired turn-around times,
• Demonstrates the ability to prepare components such as dividing blood and blood products and thawing frozen plasma and cryoprecipitate,
• Quality Control is performed and documented as scheduled in the same manner as patient samples resolving all QC failures with immediate corrective action, documentation and notification to the supervisor or designee,
• Performs quality review of blood products collected by RWJ Somerset Blood Services,
• Maintains reagents and adequate level of blood/blood product inventory,
• Assists in the evaluation and validation of new products, instruments, assays and other hospital or laboratory projects and initiatives,
• Ensures and documents that all instruments have been properly calibrated, maintenance procedures performed and scheduled Quality Control completed prior to analysis of patient samples,
• Ensures integrity and appropriate use of all IT systems,
• Attends and participates in department and general laboratory meetings, training and completes any hospital required educational sessions,
