Job Summary:
The “Go Team” PA/NP is prepared to deliver primary health care, including but not limited to: recognition and management of common illnesses and injuries in the Emergency Department, some of which may be determined by protocol; provision of care across the health care continuum with emphasis on the early detection and treatment of disease, as well as prevention.
Essential Non-Clinical Functions of Job
- APP must be flexible and have the ability to travel to various RWJBarnabas locations on a regular basis based on staffing needs.
- APP must be able to work proficiently Emergency Medicine.
Essential Clinical Functions of Job
- Work clinical shifts
- Membership to the medical staff and/or allied health staff
- Maintains appropriate certifications, licenses, and hospital privileges
- Obtains and records patient history and performs physical examinations
- Responsible for completing a medical screening exam
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic studies
- Orders diagnostic laboratory tests, radiological studies or other therapies as appropriate
- Establishes diagnostic decision-making and initiates a treatment plan, which may include ordering medications, additional therapeutic modalities, etc.
- Coordinates patient care with other members of the health care team. Initiates consultation request to other health professionals to provide more comprehensive patient management.
- Instructs and counsels patients regarding mental and physical health; referring patients to appropriate specialists/resources
- Adequately manages patient flow in the ED
- Performing other procedures as allowed by state law and under the direction of your supervising or collaborating physician
- Active participation in department staff meetings and risk management education
- Thorough and timely chart completion
- Completes required courses, i.e. HIPAA, EMTALA and other CME /CEU requirements
- Must be able work extended hours including weekdays, overnights, weekends, and holidays
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Medical knowledge, broad based understanding of clinical emergency and hospital medicine
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal
- Maintains good working relationships with ED team and hospital medical staff
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Works within legal, regulatory and ethical practice standards
- Flexibility with scheduling and willing to help out with urgent scheduling needs
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Must have a minimum of 5 years relevant EM experience
- Certification in applicable professional boards (NCCPA, ANCC, etc)
- Licenses to practice in the applicable State
