What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard (Early AM) position at Rye Ymca?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Sr. Director Aquatics/Safety, Lifeguards are expected to maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck, and in the surrounding areas, as well as create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains active surveillance of the pool
- Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures
- Completes related reports as required
- Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and staff
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool
- Maintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the State Health Department code
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed
- Checks the pool for hazardous conditions upon arrival
- Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action
- Attends all staff meetings and in-service trainings
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate
- Certifications Required - CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Basic First Aid
- Ability to maintain certification - level of physical and mental readiness
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
· We have various weekday and weekend shifts available for experienced and certified lifeguards
HOURS: With facility hours of 6:00am-9:00pm there are various opportunities for different shift times. Lifeguards must have availability and flexibility to work evenings and weekends. Positions currently open for early morning to 3:00pm shifts
HOURLY RANGE: $16.00-25.00 depending on skills, years of experience and education
CERTIFICATIONS: American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR
*In New York, annual CPR refresher is required to maintain your 2-year Lifeguard cert.
