As a Shift Area Lead at Ryerson, you will oversee the warehouse team and assist the second shift Supervisor with production and department goals.
Roles and Responsibilities
- The ideal candidate will operate motorized material handling equipment such as an overhead crane, side loader, and forklift
- It is also a requirement that when short-handed or during periods of high demand, Leadership is responsible for filling in where needed
- Responsible for training staff to ensure they are fully trained for the tasks they are performing. Coaches, mentors, counsels, and develops
- Effectively leads pre-shift safety and production huddles with the team
- Ensure corrective actions are carried out to eliminate workplace hazards
- Reacts to machinery breakdowns by directing repairs when possible, arranging for outside repairs or reassignment of personnel as needed
- Assume short-term responsibility for management absences as requested

Requirements
- Successfully pass a skills-based assessment - evaluates your reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
- 3-5 years of experience
- Experience operating equipment and ability to recognize materials in the service center
- Possesses leadership abilities and has a desire to advance and solid interpersonal communication skills required
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a rapidly changing environment
- Flexible, dependable, and solutions-oriented
- Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, and mobility
