Job Summary

The Civil Designer is responsible for providing CAD drafting, preparing detailed drawings, and creating schematics from various specifications, layouts, blueprints, and sketches. This role involves preparing complete design packages, ensuring code compliance, and supporting the engineering team by contributing to technical design projects. The Civil Designer utilizes CAD software to transform initial concepts into accurate working documents and manages AutoCAD 3D models and project records to support successful project completion.

Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Support and Project Contribution: Provides technical support to the engineering and design teams, contributing to project completion by creating accurate drawings and ensuring that all design work meets project specifications and industry standards.  

CAD Drafting and Technical Drawings: Uses CAD software to prepare detailed technical drawings and design documents derived from various specifications, layouts, and sketches. Produces code-compliant designs that adhere to established standards and requirements.  

Design Package Preparation: Prepares comprehensive design packages, including all necessary drawings and schematics, to support project goals. Ensures that packages are well-organized and provide clear direction for project execution.  

3D Model Management and AutoCAD Designs: Manages and updates AutoCAD 3D models, ensuring they reflect current project specifications and design modifications. Transforms initial rough product concepts into finalized working documents using CAD software.  

Project Records Maintenance: Maintains organized and up-to-date project records, supporting project tracking and documentation for efficient reference and compliance. Assists in maintaining consistency and accuracy across project documents.  

Design Review and Compliance: Reviews and refines design elements to ensure that all drawings meet project requirements, industry standards, and code compliance. Collaborates with team members to address any design discrepancies and optimize final outputs.

Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD and CAD Software

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma 

Minimum of 10 years of relevant CAD drafting or design experience

Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate office equipment, such as computers, printers, and telephones. 

Visual Acuity: Consistent visual attention to detail for reviewing technical drawings, reports, and computer screens. 

Communication: Regular communication with team members and clients via phone, email, and in-person meetings, requiring clear speech and auditory comprehension. 

Mobility: Occasional need to move about the office and visit different departments or offsite locations, which may involve walking, climbing stairs, or using elevators. 


Work Environment

Office Setting: The work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions. 

Team Collaboration: Frequent interaction with team members, clients, and stakeholders in a collaborative workspace. 

Meetings and Presentations: Regular participation in meetings and presentations, both in-person and virtually. 

Site Visits: Occasional visits to project sites, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions and physical terrains. 

Travel: Occasional travel is required to attend client meetings, site visits, conferences, or training sessions. Travel may involve extended periods away from the office and vary in frequency. 

Equipment Use: Daily use of office equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, and telephones. 

Work Hours: Standard office hours with a flexible schedule to accommodate project deadlines and work/life balance. Weekend and extended work hours may occasionally be required based on project needs.
