WORK LOCATION : Midlands Region (Headquarters are Negotiable)
The Regional Medical Director (RMD) will serve as the primary clinician to oversee all aspects of clinically related care provided in the Region.
Duties are to include :
- Clinical Consultant : Is the primary medical consultant in the Region, providing medical consultation by phone for health department clinics, assisting with policy, procedure & standing order development; serving as collaborating physician for up to eleven (11) APRNs; and serving as the back-up physician for the other Regions. Serve as the Vaccines for Children (VFC) provider for the Region and ensure regional medical consultant coverage during working hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Supervision : Directly supervise the Regional Laboratory Manager.
- Public Health Practitioner : Maintain current trends and best practices in the public health sector, actively engage with local communities as a public health leader, advocate, and maintain mutually beneficial relationships in the region with providers, hospitals, residency programs, schools, and universities. Serve on community taskforces as a subject matter expert, helping to guide others in understanding public health services.
- Disease Surveillance & Emergency Response : Be the primary medical consultant during public health emergencies; maintain operational awareness of public health preparedness and disease response activities; participate in emergency preparedness and disease response efforts.
Emergency Preparedness :
In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, DPH employees may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
Minimum Qualifications :
Medical or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an accredited medical school, plus completion of an internship or one (1) year of residency training; Unrestricted Medical License in State of South Carolina; State of South Carolina Driver's License.
Current unrestricted license from the SC Board of Medical Examiners to practice medicine in South Carolina or the ability to obtain an unrestricted license within ninety (90) days of hire.
Master of Public Health, Master of Health Informatics, Master of Health Management or Policy, or related certification from an accredited institution. At least two (2) years of clinical experience. Familiarity with electronic health records such as Cerner or EPIC; proficiency with Microsoft Office and / or Teams.
Driving Record : If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver’s license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection will be required to provide a certified copy of a ten (10)-year driving record.
