Job Summary
Purpose: To function as legal counsel for Domestic Violence/Family Violence victims seeking actions under the State of Georgia Family Violence Codes/Laws. To include Temporary Protective Orders, Stalking, and Divorce Proceedings. Assist victims in understanding Domestic Violence, court proceedings, and relief through the court systems. To work independently and coordinate legal services through civil and criminal justice systems.
Responsibilities:
- To interview and meet with clients who present for Temporary Protective Orders.
- To determine based on the complexities of the situation if the victim will need an attorney to represent him/her during the court hearings.
- To meet with victims to assist in understanding the process and court proceedings for the Temporary Protective Order.
- Perform all litigations relating to appropriate victim’s cases.
- Directly assists victims or provides technical advice to victims in superior court actions relating to the civil process for Family Violence proceedings.
- Provide assistance relating to the rights of victims.
- To educate victims regarding their responsibilities relating to the Temporary Protective Order process.
- To collaborate with the solicitor and district attorney’s offices.
- To assist victims in Divorce Proceedings, Child Support, and other areas that may be needed relating to Family Law.
Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding domestic violence/family violence.
Knowledge of the principles and procedures of litigation in the different court systems.
Knowledge of services and resources for the victim.
Ability to perform legal research
Rules of evidence and conduct of the court.
Skills
Client interviewing, analytical reasoning ability, excellent writing skills, communication/listening skills.
Hold a Juris Doctorate Degree
Membership in the Georgia Bar.
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary
Pay: $50.00 - $60.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
