Position Summary:
The Concrete Finisher is responsible for preparing and finishing concrete surfaces on construction projects, ensuring high-quality standards and smooth, level finishes. This role involves working with a variety of concrete tools and equipment, and collaborating with other crew members to meet project specifications and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare Concrete Surfaces: Set up forms, pour, and finish concrete surfaces such as floors, driveways, sidewalks, and foundations.
- Finishing Concrete: Use tools such as trowels, floats, and screeds to smooth and finish concrete surfaces. Achieve specified texture, level, and slope requirements.
- Inspect Concrete for Quality: Ensure that concrete surfaces are free of defects, cracks, and imperfections. Perform minor repairs or adjustments to ensure quality finishes.
- Work with Other Crew Members: Collaborate with other concrete finishers, laborers, and construction personnel to meet deadlines and deliver quality work.
- Adhere to Safety Guidelines: Follow safety procedures to avoid accidents and injuries on the job site. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Handle Tools and Equipment: Safely operate and maintain equipment such as power trowels, vibrators, and concrete saws.
- Curing and Sealing Concrete: Apply curing compounds and sealers as required to protect the finished surface and ensure proper hardening of the concrete.
- Clean and Maintain Equipment: Ensure tools and equipment are cleaned and stored properly after use to extend their life and maintain safety standards.
- Report Issues and Progress: Communicate any challenges, safety concerns, or progress updates to the supervisor in a timely manner.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a concrete finisher or similar role in the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of concrete mixing, pouring, finishing, and curing techniques.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools (e.g., trowels, screeds, floaters, power trowels).
- Knowledge of safety practices and proper use of PPE.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, durable concrete surfaces.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and project specifications.
- Good physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of decorative concrete techniques (staining, stamping, etc.) is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy materials and equipment.
- Ability to bend, kneel, stand, and work in outdoor conditions for extended periods.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and on uneven surfaces.
Work Environment:
- Outdoor construction sites, exposed to varying weather conditions.
- Physical labor required, including standing, bending, lifting, and kneeling.
- Full-time hours with occasional overtime depending on project deadlines.
