The Team: S&P Global’s Sustainable1 (S1) is part of Commodity Insights and serves as the centralized source for critical sustainability intelligence at S&P Global. This role is situated within the Science team of the Climate Center of Excellence. The Science team delivers cutting-edge scientific insights to enhance S&P Global products, assisting financial institutions, companies, and governments in measuring and managing the financial risks associated with climate change. Comprising experienced climate scientists, the Science team engages in pioneering applied research focused on the physical and economic impacts of climate change. They work on forward-looking initiatives that address emerging needs in climate risk analysis.

Responsibilities:
- Join the science team to drive the development of innovative models, including event-driven hazard models and probabilistic techniques that address correlations among various hazards.
- Create hazard models for emerging climate impacts, such as tipping-point effects, cascading hazards, and landslides.
- Assess and validate the outcomes of hazard models.
- Lead and/or contribute to the preparation of technical reports and academic publications.
- Stay updated with the latest scientific literature pertinent to our modeling efforts.
- Collaborate with the Customer Success team and the Product team to enhance the technical understanding of current methodologies and the development of improved techniques.
- Present research findings to customers and at scientific conferences.
Basic Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in the quantitative analysis of climate-related geophysical phenomena and their associated data.
- Strong commitment to data integrity with a keen attention to detail and consistency.
- Highly organized, capable of managing projects independently while meeting deadlines.
- Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate successfully within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Climate or Atmospheric Science, or a related Physical Science, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Proficient in utilizing the latest global climate model data sets.
- Skilled in statistical and probabilistic analysis of extensive geophysical data sets.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for a multi-disciplinary approach to understanding physical climate impacts, particularly in relation to their integration into socio-economic modeling.
- Committed to a hands-on research approach, with proficiency in R and/or Python, along with experience in Unix-based computing environments.
Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only): S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $90,387-$110,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is eligible to receive additional S&P Global benefits.
