Overview
The Garden Center Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing the daily operations of the retail garden center, ensuring that both customers and staff have a positive experience. This position requires a passion for horticulture and a strong understanding of landscape maintenance, greenhouse management, and customer service. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing inventory, leading a team, and providing advice on gardening and landscaping to customers.
Responsibilities
- Supervise all daily operations of the garden center, including staff management and customer service.
- Oversee inventory management, ensuring that all plants, and supplies are adequately stocked and displayed.
- Ordering and Organizing plant materials for nursery and contracted jobs.
- Assist customers with planting and plant maintenance guidance and techniques.
- Manage greenhouse operations (1 small 60ft greenhouse) and outdoor garden center
- Manage irrigation systems and ensure proper watering schedules are maintained.
- Develop promotional strategies to enhance sales of gardening products and services.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment that promotes safety and efficiency.
- Hiring, scheduling, and training of all seasonal nursery staff
- Pricing of retail items (pots, annuals, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned during the off-season, assisting company snow removal billing process
Qualifications
A degree in Horticulture Studies is preferred but not a must. This position is ideal for individuals who are enthusiastic about horticulture and have a desire to lead a small team.
- Strong knowledge of plant maintenance techniques, plant knowledge, and identification.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide exceptional customer service.
- Strong leadership skills with experience in managing a team in a retail garden center environment.
- Passion for gardening with an eagerness to share knowledge with customers.
- Ability to work independently and self motivated
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs.
- Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Attention to detail and highly organized
