The School Quality Specialist is a division leader who fosters development and growth of the Continuous Improvement Process with a focus on student achievement by building relationships with division and school leaders. The position is part of a team of five specialists, two coordinators, one instructional coach and a director. The primary responsibility of the School Quality Specialist is to coach school leaders in the Continuous Improvement Process. The specialist is also responsible for delivering professional learning for school and district leaders as well as leading one of the Domains of the Division Support Plan.
Essential Duties
- Effectively models and supports various processes for gathering, analyzing, and using data for decision-making in the Continuous Improvement Process.
- Collaborates with other HCPS departments to support the alignment, coordination, and delivery of instructional programs based on school need.
- Provides professional learning designed to improve instruction and student performance consistent with division initiatives and Improvement Science.
- Participates in VDOE workshops and provides follow-up training to school leaders.
- Leads the Division Support Plan process.
- Supports the HCPS Strategic Plan.
- Understands and can apply Improvement Science.
- Ensures that School Support Plans are focused on the needs identified through the School Needs Assessment process.
- Coaches school staff on best practices of the School Quality Process.
- Actively participates in on-going professional learning including professional reading, attending virtual and in-person training, attending and presenting at conferences.
- Builds positive relationships with district and school leadership in support of the School Quality Process.
- Displays support of district initiatives, curriculum, instructional practices, etc.
- Uses the HCPS Teaching and Learning Framework to support instructional best practices and aligned curriculum through the School Quality Process.
- Understands and can explain and apply the Virginia School Performance and Support Framework.
- Possesses the ability to project-plan for both short-term and long-term projects.
- Possesses the ability to self-direct in a daily schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
- Evidence of instructional leadership in schools experiencing difficulty meeting state accountability requirements.
- Formal experience coaching adults for improvement.
- Deep understanding of Improvement Science.
- Evidence of coordinating the School Quality process at a school, district, and/or state level.
- Evidence of current content knowledge and pedagogical skills related to K-12 instruction.
- Current Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or related field required.
- Endorsement in administration and supervision required.

Anticipated Start Date – July 1, 2025
- Minimum annualized salary - $80,039.90 (The salary for this position will be prorated based upon the official start date).
- Salary based on the 2024-2025 pay scale, subject to change based on adoption of the 2025-26 pay scale.
