Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Peer Specialist to join our team. This role is designed for individuals who have personal experience with mental health or substance use challenges and are eager to support others on their recovery journey. The Peer Specialist will leverage their lived experiences to provide guidance, encouragement, and support to clients navigating behavioral health systems.
Duties
- Provide one-on-one support and mentoring to individuals facing mental health or addiction challenges who attend our drop-in center.
- Facilitate group sessions that promote recovery-oriented practices and share personal experiences to inspire hope.
- Assist the Drop-In center manager with the daily programming.
- Plan for and attend outings of the drop-in member as needed
- Offer crisis management and intervention services as needed, ensuring the safety and well-being of clients.
- Educate clients about available resources, including addiction counseling, behavioral health services, and social work support.
- All other duties as assigned by the Drop-in Center Director
Requirements
- Certification or ability to be certified within 6 months of employment as a Peer Specialist is required.
- Strong understanding of addiction counseling, mental health counseling, and behavioral health systems.
- Experience in crisis management and crisis intervention is highly desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Proficient in motivational interviewing techniques to effectively engage clients in their recovery process.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while maintaining a client-centered approach.
- Previous experience in mentoring or providing support in a social work context is a plus.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $16.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 37 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
- Morning shift
