Position Title: Peer Advocate
Position Summary:
To provide self-help and advocacy to persons who are persons who are recipients of mental health services affiliated with SLPC. To project a positive image as he/she serves as a mentor and role model to the community.
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Meet with eligible peers to provide support services within the hospital and community (i.e. DSS, SSI, housing, employment opportunities, etc.).
- Assist peers leaving the hospital and transitioning into the community.
- Run self-help and educational groups.
- Be available to work weekend and evening shifts (flexible hours).
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualification:
Must have excellent communication, computer, and organizational skills. Must be familiar with use of the internet and possess good research skills, as well as the ability to get along well with people. Must have an excellent working knowledge of entitlements available to the general population. Must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation. Participate in ongoing training. Position requires travel within St. Lawrence County.
