GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Non-CDL Driver will operate a passenger van/approved vehicle safely in transporting students and authorized personnel and/or equipment to and from events. Employees in this class are responsible for following an assigned route and schedule in the safe operation of a passenger van/approved vehicle. Employees in this class are prohibited from operating vehicles that require possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
- Operates a vehicle over an assigned route in transporting students and/or school property to and from school related events;
- Maintains order among students aboard and reports cases of misbehavior to school and staff officials through proper procedures;
- Inspects vehicle and checks gas, oil, water and all lights, brakes, and safety equipment before driving; maintains cleanliness of vehicle (both inside and out);
- Prepares reports of accidents and incidents, which occur;
- Prepares manifest reports as requested;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB RELATED CONDITIONS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Good knowledge of driving safety and courtesy;
- Good knowledge of the operation of automobiles and passenger vans;
- Good knowledge of the local streets and road system;
- Good knowledge of state regulations and laws pertaining to the operation of vehicles;
- Good knowledge of motor vehicle laws and regulations of the State Board of Education;
- Some knowledge of first aid;
- Ability to deal patiently and effectively with students;
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; and
- Ability to communicate effectively with Transportation department staff, school administrators, community members, students, and appropriate TLPS Staff.
General Information:
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
- Individuals transporting students must have at least three (3) years of driving experience and have attained the minimum age of twenty-one (21) years.
- Must possess a clean driving record.
- Must meet the minimum requirements of insurance carrier.
Certification:
- Possession of a valid TX Driver’s License.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- No direct supervisory responsibilities.

Employee must have the ability to sit in the bus driver seat, reach the steering wheel and grasp with both hands, reach the pedals, and wear a seat belt properly. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
Working Environment:
- This job is performed primarily in a driver-related position and may require long periods of sitting and operating a motor vehicle.
Additional Information:
- Drug screenings and driving records will be completed upon acceptance of the offer. Drug and alcohol screenings may be conducted as deemed necessary.
