Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides therapy to individuals and groups to promote optimum mental health; assists individuals deal with addictions and substance abuse, and issues such as mood disorders, depression, suicide, domestic violence, sexual dysfunction, stress management, problems with self-esteem, issues associated with aging, job and career concerns, educational decisions, issues of mental and emotional health, family, parenting, marital problems, and gender issues
- Gathers data of client’s history through personal interviews with client, family and others; prepares case histories affecting client; provides clinical assessment and treatment planning for clients.
- Consults with medical staff, case managers, and paraprofessionals to ensure clinical and case management needs and service quality are being met; confers regarding additional identified services as needed. Participate in meetings that involve drug or related behavior.
- Work with the Behavioral Health Director to develop, evaluate, and modify, when necessary, a trauma-responsive, culturally informed substance program and workflows/procedures.
- Maintains a working knowledge of other community substance use and mental health services and resources; effectively matches the services and resource needs of clients.
- Collaborates, coordinates, and advocates with other community professionals, servicing agencies, clients, and families to ensure service plan implementation and/or linkage services; monitors linkage services to ensure that referrals are provided promptly and effectively.
- Acts as a resource to other Clinic providers. Collaborates with physicians and others to develop and implement treatment and intervention programs that patients can understand and comply with.
- Participates in crisis intervention and conflict resolution actions, including suicide assessments, partner abuse, child and elder abuse screening; takes appropriate measures to resolve crisis situations; implements mandatory reporting procedures in accordance with regulations (including HIPAA) and policies.
- Records/enters all information regarding client services in accordance with policies procedures.
- Gathers information, performs data entry, ensuring accuracy and completeness; ensures documentation and reports comply with requirements of regulatory agencies, contractual obligations and funding sources.
- Listens to clients/patients’ complaints and concerns and works to resolve them independently; refers clients/patients to appropriate manager if unable to resolve issues to the client’s satisfaction.
- Ensures client/patient confidentiality; demonstrates complete discretion when discussing client information; always complies with HIPAA regulations regarding patient confidentiality.
- Work cooperatively with Behavioral Health Director to provide expertise and substance use training to staff as needed.
- In collaboration with Behavioral Health Director, outreach to community organizations for partnership opportunities with public, private, and nonprofit sector groups to provide services.
- Provide leadership and consultation to SCC staff in clinical crises with people experiencing difficulties related to substance use.
Position Requirements:
- A license issued by the State of California to provide therapy. Allowable licenses include: Marriage and Family Therapy License (LMFT), Clinical Social Work license (LCSW), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC) and/or Clinical Psychologist (PsyD).
- Experience working with individuals dealing with substance misuse and/or certified Drug Abuse Counselor.
- Knowledge of and ability to use trauma-specific clinical techniques and therapies, especially around substance use issues.
- Demonstrates cultural humility and openness. Experience working cross-culturally. Knowledge of culturally responsive therapy a plus.
- Prior experience working within a community mental health or primary care, medical setting preferred.
- Able to work in a harm reduction model with clients who have multiple barriers.
- Able to learn quickly and work effectively with a wide range of constituencies and with minimal supervision.
- Working knowledge of child protection regulations and standards
- Working knowledge of social services resources in the Los Angeles area, and related reporting procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to crisis situations, and a working knowledge of crisis management techniques and suicide intervention.
- Effective communication skills both oral and written, including ability to make presentations
- Bilingual skills in Spanish/English (preferred)
- Bilingual skills in languages such as Spanish, Korean, Tagalog, Russian, Armenian preferred.
