Apprentice Lineman
Saber Power Services, LLC, (SPS) located in Houston, TX is a nationally recognized full service, EPC, specialty engineering, procurement, construction and testing and commissioning company specializing in complex medium and high voltage electrical infrastructure in North America.
Saber Power Services seeks a professional, dedicated individual with a positive outlook for our Apprentice Lineman opening in Geismar, LA.
The Lineman Apprentice performs new construction and maintenance work on overhead and underground distribution and transmission lines under the supervision of a Journeyman Lineman.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Build and maintain distribution overhead and underground and/or transmission lines and facilities, both energized and de-energized
- Plan jobs to ensure compliance with approved safety and construction standards and procedures
- Maintain work records
- Stock line trucks and maintain tools and equipment
- Drive, maintain and operate line vehicles and properly stations them for the work to be done
- Perform less difficult and/or routine installations and repairs independently and with minimal supervision
- Troubleshoot activities, as needed
EDUCATION:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience as a lineman helper and/or completion of a 1-year line school program - Preferred
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Valid Driver License with acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Perform heavy manual labor requiring manual dexterity under varying weather conditions
- Observe, compare, or monitor data to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards
- Perform physical inventory of materials
- Perform precise arm-hand positioning movements and maintains static arm-hand position
- Proficient in the use of instruments to measure electrical current and voltages
- Understanding of basic electric theory and terminology
- Ability to interpret and read graphic instructions such as blue prints, schematic drawings, layouts and other visual aids preferred
