Civil Drafter
Saber Power Services, LLC, (SPS) located in Houston, TX is a nationally recognized full service, EPC, specialty engineering, procurement, construction and testing and commissioning company specializing in complex medium and high voltage electrical infrastructure in North America.
Saber Power Services seeks a Civil Drafter to prepare detailed drawings, models, and documentation for the civil infrastructure of electrical substations. This role involves designing and drafting elements such as foundations, structures, and layout plans for substations, ensuring that the designs meet safety, quality, and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation of Substation Civil Drawings:
- Draft detailed civil engineering drawings for substation structures, including foundations, platforms, access roads, drainage systems, fences, and other civil works.
- Create accurate 2D and 3D models of substation components using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, or other relevant drafting software.
- Develop site layouts, grading, drainage plans, and utility trenching designs.
- Design Support for Substation Infrastructure:
- Assist engineers in the design of substation components such as foundations for transformers, switchgear, control buildings, and other electrical equipment.
- Provide drafting support for electrical and mechanical layouts as per project specifications.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers to ensure accurate placement of electrical components in the substation design.
- Document and Drawing Management:
- Maintain and organize project files, including the drawings and technical documents, ensuring they are up-to-date and easily accessible.
- Review and update drawings in accordance with project revisions, design changes, or client requests.
- Ensure all drawings are properly numbered, labeled, and conform to established standards and conventions.
- Site Analysis and Measurements:
- Conduct site visits when necessary to gather measurements, assess site conditions, and ensure the design can be accurately implemented on-site.
- Assist in identifying and resolving design issues or discrepancies encountered during construction or installation.
- Coordination with Engineering Teams:
- Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and civil engineers to align civil designs with the overall substation design.
- Coordinate with procurement and construction teams to ensure the availability of required materials and equipment for civil works.
- Support project teams in addressing construction challenges and offering design solutions.
- Compliance and Quality Control:
- Ensure all designs and drawings adhere to relevant local, national, and international codes and standards (e.g., IEC, ANSI, and IEEE for electrical substations).
- Perform quality control checks on drawings to ensure they meet technical specifications and project requirements.
- Review plans and drawings for constructability and functionality before final approval.
- Reporting and Communication:
- Communicate with project managers and engineers regarding design changes, updates, and challenges.
- Prepare reports and documentation on the status of drafting assignments and deliverables.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Educational Requirements: Associate’s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: 2 years of experience in civil drafting, preferably in the substation, power, or electrical infrastructure sector.
- Software Proficiency:
- Expertise in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit.
- Familiarity with project management tools and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- Knowledge of Substation Design: Basic understanding of electrical substation layouts, safety requirements, and civil infrastructure.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and precision in creating detailed drawings and models.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
