Engineer III / Electrical
Saber Power Services, LLC, (SPS) located in Houston, TX is a nationally recognized full service, EPC, specialty engineering, procurement, construction and testing and commissioning company specializing in complex medium and high voltage electrical infrastructure in North America.
Saber Power Services is seeking an experienced Engineer III – Electrical to support the design, development, and execution of EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects in the power, industrial, and energy sectors. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing electrical systems, performing technical calculations, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to successfully deliver projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the electrical engineering design for medium and high-voltage power distribution, substations, and industrial facilities.
- Develop one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, grounding layouts, lighting designs, and conduit/cable tray layouts.
- Perform power system studies, including short circuit, load flow, arc flash, protection & coordination, and grounding analysis using ETAP, SKM, or similar software.
- Size and specify electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, MCCs, breakers, relays, UPS systems, and VFDs.
- Ensure designs comply with industry codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, NESC, NFPA, ANSI, IEC, etc.).
- Conduct voltage drop, fault current, and cable sizing calculations.
- Develop technical specifications, datasheets, and procurement documents for electrical equipment.
- Review and approve vendor drawings and technical submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Work closely with civil, structural, mechanical, and instrumentation teams to integrate electrical systems into overall project designs.
- Provide technical support for construction teams and assist in resolving field-related engineering issues.
- Conduct quality assurance (QA/QC) reviews on drawings, calculations, and reports.
- Support project managers by developing work scopes, cost estimates, and schedules.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing guidance on design standards and best practices.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- 5-10 years of experience in electrical engineering for EPC, power generation, transmission & distribution, oil & gas, industrial, or renewable energy projects.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, or ability to obtain one.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, and/or BIM software.
- Hands-on experience with power system analysis tools such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or EasyPower.
- Deep understanding of electrical codes, safety regulations, and engineering principles.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, managing design deliverables and meeting deadlines.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
