Job Summary
The Junior Estimator is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to build a solid foundation in electrical construction estimating. Under the guidance of senior estimators and project managers, you’ll gain hands-on experience working on high voltage substation, transmission, and distribution projects.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing accurate estimates for labor, materials, and project costs on high voltage electrical infrastructure projects.
- Support takeoffs and quantity surveys under supervision to determine project needs.
- Work closely with experienced estimators, project managers, and engineers to understand scope and budget requirements.
- Learn to analyze technical drawings, specifications, and historical data to support cost analysis.
- Help gather and organize pricing information from vendors and subcontractors.
- Assist with the preparation of bid proposals by providing detailed and accurate cost estimations, including direct labor, subcontractor costs, materials, and overhead.
- Contribute to internal documentation and estimation reports.
- Participate in team meetings and project reviews to build knowledge of the construction process.
- Interact with vendors and subcontractors to obtain pricing and validate cost assumptions for materials and labor.
- Maintain clear and organized estimation files, reports, and documentation. Prepare detailed estimates and summaries for review by senior management.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested by management.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Prior estimating experience in the electrical power industry, specifically with high voltage substation, transmission, and distribution projects is preferred.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or Estimating certifications is preferred.
- Familiarity with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Estimator, Procore, or similar).
- Ability to learn electrical systems and material requirements in high-voltage infrastructure projects.
- Ability to assess and estimate labor, including understanding different trades involved in electrical power construction.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to learn industry standards, codes, and best practices related to electrical field services.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel to project sites as needed.
