Accounting Assistant needed in Wilmington, NC. The Accounting Assistant will support the accounting team with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and data entry, along with a variety of other accounting and bookkeeping duties. This position requires knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including but not limited to financial transactions, financial reports, budgets, compliance, and auditing. The Accounting Assistant will work in a team environment under the supervision of the Accounting Manager.

- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and formulas
- Maintains financial records in accordance with established guidelines and procedures, including reconciling, validating, and ensuring completeness and sufficiency of financial data
- Performs scanning duties associated with accounting and organizational records
- Performs accounting duties associated with accounts payable for four companies with a large volume of transactions
- Verifies accuracy and approval for all invoice purchases
- Responsible for supporting one or more accounting areas, including accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, payroll, inventory management, cost studies and contract maintenance
- Research accounting problems and discrepancies, and tracks accounting documentation for audit purposes
- Assists in the preparation of financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, for use by management and external sources in assessing the financial status of the organization
- Assists with the development and maintenance of budgets and prepares periodic reports comparing budgeted costs to actual costs
- Assists with preparation for the audit process
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of an associate degree in accounting or related field
- Experience with journal entries & general ledger maintenance
- Minimum of two years of Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable experience
- Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Relevant work experience with Microsoft Dynamics or other accounting software
