What are the responsibilities and job description for the Licensed School Social Worker position at Sacred Heart Academy?
Sacred Heart Academy is an All Girls College Preparatory Catholic High School looking for a highly qualified candidate to fill a position for a full time Grade 9-12 Licensed School Social Worker for the 2024-25 School Year. The Social Work Counselor provides psychological counseling to those students in need of such services and to promote the healthy social and emotional development of all students.
Major Responsibilities:
- To assess the need for counseling services when students come in for assistance or are referred by family members, faculty and staff or classmates.
-To provide ongoing counseling services within the school setting to students with complex psycho-social concerns.
-To communicate, where appropriate, with students families/guardians to help ensure the likelihood that challenges are resolved in a healthy fashion.
-To make appropriate referrals (both within the school and to community resources) as necessary.
-While respecting the confidentiality of students, to communicate with appropriate school personnel so as to best support students.
-To assess and intervene with students and families when a student is suicidal or engaging in self injury.
-To coordinate counseling services, in consultation with administration, in the event of a school-wide emergency.
-To provide professional development, as warranted, to faculty and staff on topics that significantly affect the emotional and social well being of students.
-To develop and update school policies in areas such as suicide prevention and school response to traumatic loss in consultation with administration and faculty.
-To foster relationships with key community, state, and national mental health organizations to ensure broad, high quality access to resources for student and their families.
Requirements:
High School Counseling Experience: preferred
Education: Master’s Degree School Counseling/Social Work
NYS Certification Required
